Ok...so I just saw this...wow...the first half of the movie is an almost serious and melancholy documentary on the life of a Japanese super-hero with little bits of dark, subtle humour....but by then end I felt like I was on a drug trip to say the least and you know what...I'm not advocating drugs here but I enjoyed the heck out of this movie...

The baby bit killed me...

The ending...where it switches..um...filming style...wow just wow
Unexpected but...holy hell just wow

Am I alone in detecting a little bit of Anti-Americanism in this movie though? Granted it'd be harder to find a foreign film that doesn't have a little bit of Anti-Americanism in it but it kinda gets on my nerves...granted I've just seen so much of it in foreign films lately that I may just be hyper sensitive to it now and am over-reacting to nothing...

Anyways...awesome film...seek it out if you havent already

But a note...don't expect alot of action...I wasn't and so was able to enjoy the film for what it was...

I'll repost what I just did elsewhere:

I saw this for the first time tonight, after owning it for over a year. I never really got around to watching it until now.

I would have to say I was pleasantly surprised and thought it was a lot better than I imagined it to be. I thought it was an excellent allegorical take on the kaiju genre, ranging from its popular past up to its near dead present state. It was quite funny at times if you paid attention, with some really odd moments. But the metaphor or context of the film is what drew me in as it progressed. The ending in particular is a nice hint at the current Japanese popularity levels of Godzilla and a certain other superhero.
