May 13th: The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection
From our good friend Zillamon’s awesome Digital Monster Island web-site (now with rainbow sprinkles) comes news on a great DVD set that many giant monster fans either missed or blatantly skipped out on…not me of course, I have both volumes. I am of course talking about the once Best Buys exclusive Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collections, which will have a major re-release come May 13th at all major DVD selling stores, and will feature such great titles (and all giant sized monster related) as Tarantula, the Monolith Monsters, The Land Unknown, and the Deadly Mantis. Along with the anything but giant-sized monster, but no less a wonderful movie The Incredible Shrinking Man!:
Tuesday, February 12: Classic Sci-Fi Returns.
For the last two Halloween seasons, Best Buy has been the exclusive retailer for two volumes of The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection. Each volume included five classic movies, on three discs. They are both now out of print, and the prices on the secondary market have been rising (especially on 2006's Volume 1). For those who missed out, Universal Studios Home Entertainment will rectify the situation on May 13 by re-releasing them all in one fell swoop. Their new The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection: Volumes 1 & 2 will include the following ten movies on six discs: Tarantula, The Mole People, The Incredible Shrinking Man, The Monolith Monsters, Monster On The Campus, Dr. Cyclops, Cult Of The Cobra, The Land Unknown, The Deadly Mantis, and The Leech Woman. All will be in their original aspect ratios (the widescreen movies will be anamorphic), with English Dolby Digital 2.0 mono sound, optional English captions and French subtitles, and include the original theatrical trailers. This new set should be available everywhere, and MSRP is $59.98. (Source: The Digital Bits.)
