The final battle, on top of, and around Tokyo tower is the highlight, I think. Watching those two just thrash each other back and forth is a joy to behold!

Its a great fun film, but once again the crappy Kong suit ruins it for me. What with the glazed stoned look of his eyes, the oversized head, his dopey face, and short bow legs. While it's much better then the KKvG suit, it was still lousy.
I also thought the title was kinda lame to. They should have called it King Kong Unleashed.
Also I was dissapointed in the Kongs' fight. They barely fought. It was more of a chase up Tokyo Tower. I was hoping for a War Of The Gargantuas style scrap between the two Kongs.

Saying that it was still a fun film, and much better then King Kong 76' or King Kong Lives.

Cheers! There are some choice behind-the-scenes photos from KKE (keeping this on-topic) to boot! :)

Despite the "Water Kong" suit, with the big Mardi Gras head, the film is a fun adventure. I don't mind the primary suit, because I think the glassy eyes were meant to ape (pun intended) the cartoon version. In retrospect, they should have used the suit actor's eyes -- like they did in THE WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS.

The only other complaint that I have is the giant sea snake -- combined with the Mardi Gras Kong, doesn't make for a convincing scene. On the other hand, Gorosaurus and Mechani-Kong come of great, and the miniature photography and the traveling matte work is generally top-notch. Not Honda and Tsuburaya's best kaiju eiga, but it does offer a solid afternoon's entertainment at the movies.

BTW, the film was very successful at the US box office for Universal in the summer of 1968.

I just watched this the other day. Fun, fun movie. While the Kong suit is very unsightly, I have to give Nakajima props for one of his best performances ever. Very charismatic and entertaining. A great adventure story and likeable characters. Paul Frees and Eisei Amamoto are a deadly combination of awesomeness, if you ask me. But I definitely could have done without the female voice in the U.S. version...I think she was terrible for both characters.

Looking forward to the book, August! Sounds pretty fascinating.
