The Three Treasures...
Posted: Sat Aug 19, 2006 9:56 pmThe highlight is probably Mifune battling the hydra. I kinda thought the creature itself was rather stiff, but it does pre-date say Harryhausen's version in "Jason and the Argonauts", and more-or-less became an inspiration for Ghidrah.
Though I've only seen this without subtitles, it is interesting to watch --- Tsuburaya's effects, familiar actors like Akihiko Hirata, Jun Tazaki and Takashi Shimura, and Mifune's always forceful performance.
I find it rather odd that Toho has never offically released this on DVD (or VHS before that), considering it's all-star cast and sort of being labeled as "The Ten Commandments of Japan."
