Note: If you can manage, do not buy the VCI dvd put out in 2002. VCI used the same exact transfer Thorn/EMI used for their vhs and beta releases in the early ‘80s right down to the same jitter effect present throughout the film (defective film stock?), impenetrable night scenes, and oversaturated colors. Crocodile was obviously shot in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio which was cropped on video/beta tape. VCI has put out a “widescreenâ€

I'd like to see this movie, but don't want to pick up the VCI DVD (megacropping BAD!).

How about Killer Crocodile or Killer Crocodile 2? I wish those two would get a region 1 release.... and more importantly, Alligator and Alligator 2: The Mutation!

C'mon, we have The Big Alligator River (aka The Great Alligator) out on a very nice legit DVD.. but that isn't as good IMO as the latter movies.

It should be noted, though, that what you bought was a cheap re-release or perhaps even a bootleg of that re-release since I have never seen an official German tape recorded in EP. Anyway, the older German tapes released by companies like VMP or ITT Contrast feature better artwork:

Being a European I can assure you that these are exceptions to the rule.

Heads up CROCODILE fans! Turns out there was a DVD release in Germany that snuck underneath the radar which has the English dub and is enhanced for 16:9 televisions. Unlike the horrendously cropped VCI release, the film's aspect ratio is 2.35:1.

It opens up with a disclaimer in German stating it is the uncut version of the film, however, it is only the U.S. release (with a video generated DER HORROR-ALLIGATOR title) from Herman Cohen that had footage cut from the opening and closing of the film. The only way to see the uncut international version is to track down the Greek VHS tape.

Seems a lot of fans in Germany were plenty pissed at this release since the distributor attempted to pass this off as the Lewis Teague from 1980 known in Germany as HORROR ALLIGATOR. Even the back of the box uses a poster image from ALLIGATOR-

You can pick up this release on Amazon's German site fairly cheap-

For those who have never seen the film, here is the original German theatrical trailer-

Not to sound like a dope, but is this movie the same one with Barbara Bach in it?? I tried to order that a few years back from DeepDiscount. It was listed, yet I got a "on backorder" notice when my other films shipped. After quite a few weeks, I inquired about "Croc's"" status and their response was that they could no longer get cpoies, as the film was no longer in print... so I was SOL.

Bummer.
