Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

I just watched the first RoM the other day. Its not an amazing movie, but its also not terrible. Desghidorah was better implemented than I remembered. The practical fire attacks along with the optical spfx weapon attacks were top notch. The Heisei mothra prop still looked like a stuffed toy but Mothra leo had a pretty cool design. The Elias were tolerable. The battle with heisei mothra and the Leo larva was actually pretty brutal and impressive. I couldn't help but feel bad for them. However when Leo turns into an adult I was disappointed at how quick the final battle was. He just comes in and beats the tar out of DG as if it were nothing. I feel like we could have used a little more drama to show how even a fresh powered up Mothra still could barely handle DG. I also wasn't a fan of Leo shooting random lasers out of seemingly every orifice. I seriously lost track up where the beams were coming from.

If Mothra were to ever get her own series again I wouldn't mind Desghidorah making a come back. I would also like Battra to be a part of the Mothra world as I like what he contributed to the Mothra mythos as a dark Mothra. Could you imagine Battra and Desghidorah battling each other?

I'm probably going to watch RoM II later today buy my memory of it wasn't exactly positive.

I consider the Mothra Trilogy three wasted kaiju movie years by Toho after they killed off Godzilla in '95. They should've went in a different direction in terms of kaiju movies for those three years instead of force feeding us Mothra. Again! Thank goodness for the Heisei Gamera movies during this time.

with how bad these movies were, would you have WANTED Toho to do something else?
Having Mothra in them is the LEAST of their issues.

I just don't think these movies would be better with another monster in Mothra's place. Granted, they would have been somewhat different with a different monster, but the lack of effort is still palpable, and just slotting another monster into films with such bad...EVERYTHING wouldn't suddenly make the movies better. Toho was cranking out garbage in the mid to late 90s, Godzilla, Mothra, Ghidorah, Anguirus, whatever, it would probably all have been bad.

Maybe. Maybe not. My gripe though is that, not only did they use Mothra, but they made them so childish, which was really a letdown. I would've loved to have seen Toho do something more serious going up against Kaneko's Gamera Trilogy. Like I said, wasted years.

eh...I think they wanted to try something different tonally since their attempt at serious (Godzilla) was deemed somewhat unsuccessful.

To me, the major failing of the RoM flicks (other than simply laziness) is that the producers forgot that there's a difference between family films and kiddie films, and tried to make them as the latter, when giant monsters lend themselves better to the former. But that kinda ties into the laziness; making something kid-friendly but still sophisticated enough to engage older viewers requires a lot more thought than just throwing bright colors at the screen.

The ROM trilogy is bad. It's not just lazy, but it's boring and it introduces DBZ Mothra who gets a power up everytime he needs to win a fight. The sad part is I actually like the evil kaiju in the series, but the characters and story are so much of a snoozefest it detracts from anything remotely good. And the battles? Well, they're basically beam fests which introduce new powers for Mothra in each new film. Meh.

I thought I'd use today's snow day as an excuse to show the little monster a kaiju flick... I gambled on the child approach of RoM2... About 40 minutes in, my two year old daughter says... "This is silly. Can we watch Elmo?"

Rebirth Of Mothra is a good movie. It's a good start to a 3 movies series. The enemy monster looked like a 4 legged version of an old enemy of Mothra. The baby Mothra has to morph into an adult after the death of its parent in order to defeat this 4 legged creature. I hope to see talkback thread about its two sequels.

I think the RoM trilogy can be summed up as Awesome kaiju terrible goofball movies. One day Desghidorah will get his chance to shine... one day.

I watched all three of the movies a few months back and I enjoyed them for what they were, I didn't expect much out of them to begin with so that probably helped.

Thinking back on them, they should have just gone full fantasy on these films, or at least old mythical tale style ala the Daimajin trilogy.

I saw these on Sci-Fi probably over 10 years ago. Watched the first one tonight. I'm writing this comment half way through the movie and holy crap is this movie awful.

I just saw RoM3 for the first time thanks to the new blurays... its probably the first of the trilogy that i would rewatch. I liked it better than at least two of the Heisei Godzilla flicks.. dont think i can say that about RoM2

Grand Ghidorah is a pretty darn cool design, and I feel much better than the one used in vs King Ghidorah

Just saw ROM III for the very first time. Or was this King Ghidrah, the Piped Pipper?! The movie, well….it’s a narrative mess! The lead kid I thought was rather charmless. In fact, the only actors given any kind of substance were the Fairies. And the less I say about the dinosaur sequences, the better (and this from the studio that gave us the brilliant Gorosaurus).

I did think this rendition of Ghidrah was a little better than previous and later incarnations, but still miles away from Tsuburaya’s versions in 1960s. I liked the menacing looking facial features, but in the Heisei tradition, Ghidrah comes out looking rather stiff (again!). Technically, I can’t really blame Kawakita for this one, since he was not involved in this production, but the effects do look Kawakita-like. I think Toho would improve with their up coming Millennium series and taking more of a page from Shinji Higuchi.
