I'm slightly surprised that the trailer seems to suggest that the monster sank Yamato. I do hope I'm incorrect on that.

That said, it looks interesting. Part of me kept expecting the ship to submerge and attack the monster with torpedoes.

Holy cow, I just watched the trailer... very cool. I didn't realize it had such a star-studded cast... Hotaru Yukijiro (from Zeiram, Mikazuki and now Ultraman Max), Taiyo Sugiura (Ultraman Cosmos himself) and Susumu Kurobe (the original Ultraman)!
And now that I've scrolled up and seen Auggie's post (duh, I woulda been more excited about this last week if I'd caught that post then) I'm even more stunned to see that Amemiya and Haraguchi are in on it too. Wow, very cool!

Hmm, a muse...could this take place on Yamato's suicide mission to Okinawa...possibly...

Yamato's last mission may have been doomed, but she was not precisely on a suicide mission. That underlying spirit may have been in the planning, but there was at least some expectation that she could actually survive to beach herself on Okinawa and provide support for the defenders.
Besides which, she carried more fuel oil than would have been required for a purely one-way trip.

Anybody else recently catch that episode of NOVA on PBS, ? It was about the construction, service and sinking of the Yamato, and was a fascinating story. One of the most interesting facts is that no single complete set of blueprints for the ship still exist, because it was constructed under such secrecy, and they were ordered destroyed when the ship was sunk. Reconstructing it for shows (and models and this movie) are a somewhat speculative effort because of this.
