So i just revisited this film for the first time in many years, and for the first time on DVD (even though I've owned that for a few years as well).. what a throw back... to a time when kaiju DVDs had substantial extras!

It came with a paper insert that looked like a newspaper reporting the event, and on the reverse side schematics for the monster and the robot.

The bonus features were pretty interesting with the director interview, etc.. and it also included his previous work on two shorts featuring a monster known as Magara. The director also mentioned the design for the monster was based on a bug called the Madara-Kamadouma, which excited looked up only to realize that translated is just a camel cricket.

I liked this movie more than Pac Rim, there I said it. This, along with Gehara, are the definite homages to the classic Toho films.

Negadon was fun. I especially liked Miroku's design.

It seems like a lot of people's opinion of this movie have gone up. I remember when Ifirst saw it i felt like i was in the minority for enjoying it. My latest watch I felt like there were too many of the cliche "pillow shots" that pass for dramatic set up in a lot of anime
