Just watched the Japanese version a week ago. I definately have a better appreciation of it these days. I still prefer the American version, for various reasons, but in either form, Rodan is definately an important film in the annals of Japanese sci-fi and fantasy. An imperfect film, to be sure (I seem to recall reading somewhere that Ifukube was so rushed to compose the score, that he had to go with it half-done, and not even perfected), but still a damn-fine one. One of the absolute best of the genre. And, of course, Rodan is probably Toho's best creation ever (aside from Godzilla, that is).
