I always hear two things on why Jackson is doing "King Kong". One because it's always been his dream and two, so that a new generation can enjoy this story with color and updated special effects.
Well, I also think a remake unnecessary. But since it's a dream project for Jackson, I can't really fault the guy. I think all of us, given the resources, would love to accomplish that dream project, or go for the dream job or take that dream vacation, etc. On the other hand, because he's doing it to satisfy today's generation, I always find a weak argument. If there are those who cannot appreciate a classic b/w movie, or something that has stop-motion rather than CGI, then it's not really the movie's fault, and I wouldn't waste my time trying to satisfy their closed-minded attitudes.
