Wow this is getting wierder.

My GF found this for us....

and then pointed out "matudaira izunokami tte 1630nenkurai no tokugawa shogun no secretary mitai na kanji..." Basically there was real historical Samurai by that character's name Edo period.....

So maybe despite the the still it WAS set in Edo times?!

Yes, the film was indeed set in the Edo Period -- they just needed some tall modern buildings for "Edo Kong" to climb. ;)
