I really like the Heisei Godzilla (if not some of the plots), but the Showa Sixties were the best. Godzilla was still the radioactive terror he'd been before - witness the worry whenever he was on a rampage.

As bad as Godzilla could be, there were still other monsters; more numerous and varied than in any decade since. It was the golden age of Toho crossovers; Rodan, Mothra, Manda, even a sort of King Kong (and the under-utilized Gorosaurus). With all those and lesser monsters in supporting roles, Toho upped the stakes and created the age of the golden uchakryu as well.

There was a real sense of wonder and hope. Space exploration, monster control, weather control, genetic engineering (don't forget the newtype fish in DAM). Human greed, militarism, and scientific arrogance were still present, but they were recognized and abhored and ultimately cast aside for the greater good. The end of DAM shows it best; humankind is at last able to make peace with its monsters, having made peace with itself. 'Beautiful symbolism.

It's VH1's "I love the 80's Godzilla films."

Seriouslly though, the sixties take the cake. Everything that's been rehased endlessly over the last 3 decades or so was done in the 60's first, and it was done better (In my eyes at least.)

I wonder how much of the 70s voting was inspired by "Smog Monster" and our nuts & bolts pal, MG2.

The last reel of "Terror of Godzilla" certainly raised the bar for pyrotechnics in daikaiju eiga. The shockwaves alone from MechaGodzilla's freefire barrage would have shattered a lesser monster.
Oh, well. Too little, too late.

my vote went to the golden age without hesitation. Though I enjoy all the decades of Godzilla this oen has to be the best and my favorite. It also has the most G films to pull weight. Itd be cool if the next decade saw a rebirth of the golden age of sorts, upon his return.
