Sadly, we are at a point now, where we are losing many of these classic Toho actors and actresses. My favorite role of Mr. Takashima was in "Frankenstein Conquers the World", where he and Nick Adams sort of played the ying and yang - Tadao the obsessed one with the Frankenstein monster (even to a point of wanting to kill him to advance his damn research), while Nick was the calm, cool and collective presence that was badly needed.

Very sad to hear this.

He was fantastic in these movies, and to see him go from playing essentially the same lovable hero character in King Kong vs. Godzilla and Atragon to playing the far more ambiguous lead scientist character in Son of Godzilla shows an enormous amount of range... not to mention how those hero roles were coded as young men and the scientist character as an older man, even though these movies were made in practically the same couple of years. That's the magic of acting; put a little gray in your hair and carry yourself differently and suddenly you're a decade older!

Terrible news. Tadao Takashima's best role certainly was the fastidious lead scientist in Son of Godzilla but he was always a great presence in King Kong vs. Godzilla and Atragon, along with his memorable heel turn in Frankenstein vs. Baragon, which I'm watching now.

It's a pity that he has died. He will be missed by his many fans.
