Your idea(s) for Godzilla's 50th Anniversary

I guess that a lot of us on here can universally agree that Godzilla's 50th Anniversary movie, Godzilla: Final Wars back in 2004, was a bit of a letdown. My question is this. What idea(s) would you have had or like to have seen for Godzilla's grand finale? Different monsters, etc.

Hmm, this is a tough question, as Godzilla Final Wars is un-salvageable. But I would have probably ended the series with another Kiryu film. I mean, why not make it a trilogy of Mechagodzilla films? I think it would have been interesting to see.

Kaneko's original concept (with Varan and Angilas), with a bigger budget and longer production schedule (possibly aided by a co-production with a U.S. studio) would have been a great 50th anniversary film.

I would have finally brought the movie Godzilla vs The Devil to fruition. I mean he is GODzilla. What better way to show off his divinity than to "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" slap the devil?

Honestly, while Final Wars in its current form is far from perfect, it wouldn't be too hard to make it into the type of movie that would have been perfect for Godzilla's 50th.

I mean, people complain about it being "another" alien invasion movie and all, but it had been YEARS since a proper alien invasion story had been done in a Godzilla movie and for me, for Godzilla's 50th, I would have done that again. I would have just discarded the matrix plotline and cut the motorcycle scene, and extended the four-way-brawl. I mean, as much as everyone moans about the short monster battles, that's the only one that gets me. I have no problem with showing that Godzilla is more powerful than usual by having him curbstomp Kamacuras and Kumonga...but I'd have given Rodan and Anguirus (and by extension King Seesar) a little more respect.

I probably would also cut out Minya. I don't hate Minya, but the whole thing feels so tacked on. Would have been just as easy to have Godzilla walk away, battle weary and appreciative of the remaining bits of humanity for reviving him.

Meh on the pimp scene. It was obviously intentional. A way of poking fun at the way Americans view Japanese cinema.

Speaking of Annyversaries, have you seen the recent short of Superman's 75 years birthday?

or the past Gundam 30 annyversary?

I would love to see Toho make an animated Godzlla Annyversary short like these.

GFW is terrible. For what it is, I think there is some fun to be had, but it was far too crammed . Some of the monsters were cool and others were terrible. Ghidorah is just AWFUL.

As for 50th plans, you could take elements from GFW and make it work as Jelly said...I also would have enjoyed seeing the original idea for GMK with Ang and Varan.

Honestly, I think GFW is the perfect concept to honor the series 50th anniversary. It just wasn't executed to the way most would hope.

GMK being given the 3 years Kaneko would have liked to turn it into a masterpiece like G3 as opposed to a typical rushed 1 year turn around toho timeline would have been ideal. Also allow Varan and Angilas.

If not that I would have liked a sequel to G vs Destoyer. The reborn Junior emerges from the smoke now Godzilla. Distraught over what he just witnessed he engages the Super XIII believing humans to have been responsible for not only Destroyah (which they kind of were) but also Hesei Godzilla's demise. After a really cool battle between the two to start the film with the SXIII being knocked out of the sky Godzilla dissapears into the Ocean never to be seen again...well at least for 8 years.

Cue the opening credits. He returns to Adonis Island where he and Rodan were found. What was missed was an underground cave with a series of eggs. We see another has cracked. The Pterodans were known for collecting a nursing multiple eggs from different species and there were others that survived the nuclear tests that created Rodan. We see a series of hatched eggs. On the island Godzilla lets out a roar and we hear a familiar response. It's angilas, who hatched a short while after baby was taken, disturbed and hatched by the battle between his father and Rodan, or possibly by the lack of warmth with the death of Rodan or due to some psychic link between the two the way Baby and Rodan had it. In this time he's become full grown. A full battle erupts.

Back in Tokyo invaders from space have arrived. As their heralds are Gigan and Moguera. It seems they were responsible for Space Godzilla arriving on Earth as well as the meteor they sent to decimate earth to make it inhabitable for them. Mothra and Godzilla thwarted their plans, but they took an interest in the futurian technology behind the first Mogera and King Ghidorah, and have been en route to earth ever since Mothra disabled their meteor in 98 (a year before it would have hit earth). Before landing back on earth mothra is intercepted by a reingineered King Ghidorah, brought back by these space people from Nebula Space Hunter M.

This movie would be a reimagining of Godzilla vs Gigan/Godzilla vs Monster Island. Due to the other eggs I'd imagine 1 or 2 more inhabitants of Monster Island such as Gorosaurus or Varan. And a beaten Mothra would land on Monster Island after the fight between Angilas and Godzilla requesting their help in defeating the invading Force. Maybe Miki would be needed too to convince Godzilla what happened 8 years ago. It would return Moguera and Ghidorah to their alien roots the way Toho had played with the idea following GvKG but decided not to. Also providing a conclusion to the hesei series and putting that final Godzilla suit never seen beyond the sillouette to good use. And while it may sound similar to GFW with far less monsters it should be more manageable so they can make it look less ridiculous. If it's Godzilla Angilas Gorosaurus Varan and Mothra, I guess The spacemen could have Hedorah (or perhaps Megalon is more fitting) too to even things out. With Godzilla and Angilas taking on Ghidorah and Gigan, Gorosaurus and Varan tagging Moguera, and Mothra vs Hedorah, kind of holding out until one of the other battles ends so she can get some support if needed. Or a super X IV (or 2004)..but no more after that. I'd also want a post credit scene with one more egg being pecked open followed by Rodan's familiar roar with more of a showa style design.

This would be appropriate in my mind because you combine a bit of 60's with the allies, a bit of 70s with the invaders (well 50s for Moguera though roots in the 90s), a bit of 80s with the SX, a bit of 90s with the same Mothra and Godzilla, and set in the 2000s. While someone mentioned above Kiryu which would be snonymous with Shinsei, I think a third movie with Kiryu for the 50th would've worn his welcome with fans. That's 3 Mecha G films in a row, 4 in 11 years and 6 in 20. 6/15 of the last films. I'm not surprised nor saddened MG was left out of the GFW lineup, though dissapointed in the film for other reasons, it was cool to see some 70s antics one last time I suppose and it had a cool theme and is good for stat padding, so there's a silver lining.

Like some have said, I'd have liked something more similar to Destroy All Monsters... Final Wars had a great roster but it was just Godzilla stomping everyone basically. I love DAM but in the end it was everyone stomping Ghidorah... I'd have liked something more like team battles with Godzilla, Rodan, Angilas, and a Mothra or two VS Ghidorah, Gigan, Megalon, Hedorah, and Mechagodzilla. Or something along those lines, the more monsters crammed in the better. But basically Team Earth Monster VS Team Space Invasion (with Megalon getting to be an honorary member since Space Hunter Nebula M apparently rents out monsters to Seatopia, they'd probably return the favor). I think one or two of the semi-recent (it has been kind of a while) video games had a similar theme.

I've also always been intrigued by the supposed third film in the Kiryu series, where Godzilla fights a clone of 1954 Godzilla or something along those lines.

And one more, to add to the "never happening" pile... I think a big multiverse film would be awesome (although better suited to the comic books) where all the various incarnations of Godzilla are all brought into the same reality somehow, and either fight each other or team up to take on a massive army of Dorats or something.

I have an idea for an anthology movie that shows off all of Godzilla's personalities from the perspective of several different people. Let's say there are 3-5 people trapped in a bunker while Godzilla is fighting Ghidorah/the military/aliens etc. Each of the people in the bunker relive their past experience surviving Godzilla's attacks.

One person views Godzilla as a horrifying monster and recounts how he lost his family during an attack and Godzilla is portrayed as a terrifying monster similar to the 54 Godzilla.

A kid who has grown up always knowing Godzilla recounts him being a hero since Godzilla has battled so many monsters and kids love that. This could have a showa style brawl.

A shinto priest could view Godzilla as some type of spiritual creature/deity that protects the land. This could have a Godzilla vs The Thing vibe only in this movie Godzilla is Mothra and Battra is the villain.

Then there is the scientists that views Godzilla as nothing more than a natural phenomenon, a force of nature that can be prepared for but not stopped. This story could have a more heisei style direction.

The overall story that has all the characters tied to the bunker could be treated like Godzilla 2000 explaining that Godzilla is all of the above. He is terrifying. Sometimes he saves other times he punishes. Godzilla is a complex being.

A film like this would have neatly tied his whole history together and would have been a fun 50th anniversary movie.

That is an awesome idea actually. Danny that is one of the best ideas I have heard on any of the Godzilla forums in quiet a while. Kudos to you, sir.
