Hello all,

Originally I was going to create a poll to see what was the most popular Godzilla movie among us fans, but unfortunately I wasn't allowed to have more than 10 poll options

Since Godzilla has about 28 movies, 10 just didn't cut it, so I decided instead to see what is the most popular era of Godzilla movies: Showa, Hesei or Millenium.

So cast your votes and feel free to give an explanation on why you believe a particular era is your favorite.

The Showa era, simply because it was the most Prolific. It seems that in recent years (I.E. The Millennium series), Godzilla has struggled to gain ground in the Japanese film market. This was not at all a problem for the Showa films.

Personally, I love the showa era the most, even though I regularly watch the Millenium era a lot more. I grew up on the Showa films and most of my fondest memories as a kid were of looking through TV Guide day after day, week after week scouring for any Godzilla movie and staying up until 3am to watch them LOL! I was also first introduced to Godzilla when I was about 6 years old while catching Terror of MechaGodzilla on TV and I remember being completely blown away. Funny thing is I actually thought MechaGodzilla was cooler and was disappointed when he was destroyed by the dinosaur-looking monster!

So my vote goes for the Showa Era simply for nostalgia purposes

Pokemon, Transformers (Fandoms I am still a big part of) seem to suffer from the phenomena GEEWUN/GENWUN! Obnoxious fans who dismiss anything past the first installment of anything.

But, I think in the case of Godzilla all you really need to do is look at the cinematic histories of the different eras and see that the Showa era was really the best of the three. Kaiju films competed with Western productions back in those days. Hell, we got the kaiju equivalent of an Epic in Mothra (1961). Seriously. It's just such a great movie, and its scope is pretty damn big compared to other films of the decade. Mothra was partially funded by Columbia too. Could that have happened with any other movies from other eras?

Interesting poll

Seems to be even more of a consensus than I thought there'd be, at least from what the poll says. I also voted for Showa. Maybe when I was younger, I would have sided with the Heisei era, but now I find myself enjoying a greater percentage of the Showa movies.

Showa by a mile. More spirit, imagination, care, and memorable characters.

Showa: best movies, best talent, best... pretty much everything.

I voted Showa, like everyone else says it really is the best one in terms of quality. I'm not surprised to see it getting all the votes, since my observations have always been that it's the big fan favorite, on this particular forum especially people that prefer Heisei or Millennium don't even seem to exist.

Should I be shocked that Showa won?

Certain Millenium films can have better miniatures, certain ones can have better scores, certain Heisei films can have a certain tone that just isn't readily available in the Showa series past Mothra vs. Godzilla...

but not even the best films of those series have it ALL in the way that so many Showa films do.
