It all depends on what you're going for, really. As far as a dark and haunting tone goes, Godzilla achieves that far and away more than any other entry in the series. On the other hand, if you're looking for something lighthearted, cheerful, fun, and family-friendly, I think Son of Godzilla pulls this off the best through and through.

Godzilla vs Biolantte, makes me pumped up. Cause all the action and dialouge, it's just so good. Probably the first Godzilla movie I saw beginning to end.

Godzilla for its dark, haunting atmosphere or Godzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla '74 for it being too damn fun for words. :D

Godzilla 1985 for it's eerie musical score and great cinematography! Out of the two 80's Godzilla films, this was the one that felt like it came from that decade (I like 80's movies, by the way).

The original Gojira, of course, for it's somber, haunting mood. Check out the train station attack scene, where you see people huddled together, blood and grime smeared on their faces, watching in horror as Godzilla lumbers through the station, knocking down a lightpole like it was a puny sapling. All this pulled along by Ifukube's dirge and you get a scene that pretty much sums up the feeling of the movie as a whole!

Terror of Mechagodzilla always leaves me feeling a bit sad, whenever I watch it. I think it's because the photography is so dark, and the sky is always a depressing gray, especially in the live-action scenes. Still, it's a helluva picture.

However, that's not my favorite mood! I'll have to ruminate on this one.

Ghidrah The Three Headed Monster had an air of pop-culture savy to it, that I really like. I don't know, that films just "lives and breaths" for me, more than any other movie in the series.
