The last kaiju film you watched: What, When, and How?

Postby Benjamin Haines » Sun Jul 09, 2006 1:49 am

Thought this might make for an interesting topic. What was the last kaiju (or tokusatsu, or just Japanese fantasy) movie you watched? When did you watch it? And how did you watch it? (i.e: Was it the R1? The R2? A VHS tape? And did you watch it on your TV? Computer? Portable DVD player?) Also, if you've got any initial impressions of the film you just recently watched that you'd like to share, feel free to express them!

The last kaiju film I watched was Son of Godzilla, just finished a few minutes ago, via the Toho region 2 DVD on my computer with English subtitles downloaded from . This is the first time in a few months that I've actually sat down and watched a Godzilla (or any Japanese SPFX) movie, and I'm glad I picked this one to get back into things. SoG has always been a special Goji movie to me ever since I first saw it as a kid, and it remains so to this day.

I agree with your comments about SOG, great movie. The suit sucks, but it probably is in my top 10 some where. As for last G movie i watched, well i finally managed to watch final wars the whole way through, havent hated a movie that much since X3, which i believe ranks somewhere right next too Batman and Robin.

Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster, about 2 weeks ago on VHS. I watched it with my brother, who's 6.

Last night I watched Godzilla uncut and subtitled via the BFI British R2 DVD on my TV.

Just... Damn. That film just leaves me speechless every time I watch it. Anybody who ever questions whether this is the greatest Godzilla movie ever made and a close contender with the original King Kong for the greatest monster movie ever made, all you need to do is watch it. It quells any doubts of how magnificent it is upon every viewing.

I think it was either King Kong vs. Godzilla, or Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, two weeks ago. During the summer, I tend to watch a ton of movies (in between going out, and doing my thing), so it's hard to recall which film I watched at what time, on what day. Right now, I'm on a Hitchcock binge, so maybe we'll come back around to Godzilla later.

Just watched my R1 vs SpaceGodzilla DVD last night on my PS2. I had watched vs Destoroyah the previous night. Dunno which i'll watch, but i'm 87.3% sure i'll be falling asleep to some G film tonight.

Last one I watched was Godzilla vs Mothra: The Battle for Earth - I'm very fond of Mothra, nobody but Toho could come up with a monster that looked like an explosion in a carpet factory! :D

Probably the next on the list will be Astro Monsters and Megalon, as soon as the disks arrive from Madman...
