I'd say Godzilla Vs. Gigan and Terror of Mechagodzilla had great Godzilla comebacks. Even Godzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla deserves a big mention!
In Gigan, Godzilla was close to dying after the Godzilla Tower shot him up with laser beams until it got blown up. And after Ghidorah and Gigan were having fun pummeling him, Godzilla finally snapped out of his weak spell and got brutal with Gigan and King Ghidorah! (Even Anguirus tried!)
In Mechagodzilla, the titular robot was making bloody swiss cheese out of Godzilla, getting the best of him in every way, until Godzilla finally pulled out his trump card: his new electromagnetic power! Once Godzilla dragged Mechagodzilla over to his body from the air, he and King Shisa made one vengeful wrecking crew!
In Terror of Mechagodzilla, both Mechagodzilla and Titanosaurus brutally beat Godzilla, blast him, and bury him. While Interpol was handling Titanosaurus, Godzilla popped up from his potential grave to beat Mechagodzilla. It was obvious Godzilla was not having a very good day, so even when Mechagodzilla was hitting him with everything but the kitchen sink, Godzilla finally reached him and, in a violent rage, started hammering the hell out of him! He just wanted to kick his Space Titanium ass, never mind any special gimmicks. When Katsura committed suicide, this left the window open for Godzilla to deliver the final blow.
When he's not being a playful Snoopy-dog, he's comparable to James Bond, Sonny Chiba, and just about any near-indestructible Sam Peckinpah hero ever conceived!
