Considering how many other great DVD's we're getting (Godzilla vs. Hedorah, Godzilla vs. Gigan, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, Tokyo SOS), it's kind of silly to be that upset over the release of Son of Godzilla. Just don't buy the boxsets. I'm not buying them. Just get the films seperately. No harm done, right?
On a side note, Son of Godzilla is not really that "childish." Minya was created to appeal to kiddies, and his scenes show that, but otherwise the film is pretty much straight-forward, with some very tense sequences involving the Kamacuri and Kumonga.
The only 100% kids Godzilla movie is Godzilla's Revenge, which is actually well-made when you analyze it and view it in the proper context.
EDIT: To clear up the confusion over the DVD of Godzilla's Revenge, it was released in a [most unsatisying] boxset distributed by Classic Media, and it's been rumoured that it will be re-released in widescreen later this year, along with Monster Zero, War of the Gargantuas, and Frankenstein Conquers the World. Go to the DVD's forum and check out the sticky thread labeled "What's available on R1 DVD FAQ."
