Aren't we missing Rebirth of Mothra and Godzilla: Final Wars from this poll?

Not that it would change my vote. In my opinion, Ghidorah gave his best performance in his original movie, Ghidorah The Three-Headed Monster. He just had such a strong sense of menace about him. It was somewhat like Godzilla's character from the original Godzilla, but different. While Godzilla came off as an unstoppable and relentless force of destruction, King Ghidorah's sense of menace was more in the way of true terror. Knowing his backstory as a destroyer of planets, watching him fly through the skies above Tokyo, cackling wildly and raining down death and destruction upon the city, he came across as a merciless and even insane force of pure carnage. Imagining oneself as a person in that city in the wake of this murderous demon, he evokes a very palpable sense of true fear. The King of Terror indeed.

I went with MONSTER ZERO, simply because by this time, I think Tsuburaya had perfected him. Don't get me wrong, he looked great in GHIDRAH as well, but in MZ, the movements seemed a bit smoother. Second place would go to GHIDRAH THE THREE HEADED MONSTER, and then I'd say GODZILLA VS. KING GHIDORAH was the next best performance by the triple-domed destroyer. The heads may be slightly altered, and the roar is different, but it's still the same, bad-a** mofo that we all know and love (If you're reading this, Megaloman, I'm just wondering why you always refer to this incarnation as "the mongrel Ghidorah?"). Then, of course, Suzuki did a superb job with him in MOTHRA 3. As for the last two films, GODZILLA VS. GIGAN and GMK, not really KG's brightest moments, but that's okay. I enjoyed both movies all the same.

Monster Zero is probably my favorite Ghidorah movie (not counting DAM, otherwise that would be first). But as far as suits go, I love the Grand King Ghidorah from Mothra 3.

MOTHRA '96 and GODZILLA: FINAL WARS both featured interpretations of Ghidorah, not the monster himself. That's what I was getting at.

he's a mongrel because he's mixed up with those Dorats. he wasn't BORN as Ghidorah.
aesthetically, the heads of the 91 version are too big, the necks are too spindley, making him look even wobblier than ever. this makes Chicken-Ghidorah from GMK look much better.
until it moves.

G:3HM is the single best Ghidorah story of them all. His definitive origin.

I don't he think he ever looked more impressive or maniacal than he did in his first, with his dark arching wings and wildly undulating heads spitting gravity bolts at random... he looks mean and nuts!

I'm going to have to go with "Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster" as well. He was just so much more menacing there than in any of his other movies. There was more of a "wildness" to him and he pretty much just tore apart anything and everything around him, whereas in the other movies he seemed a bit more restrained. The unruliness he displayed with gusto in his debut isn't quite as apparent in his other films, though it may have something to do with not operating under his own will.

I voted for "Ghidrah, The Three-Headed Monster" as being King Ghidorah's best performance for all the same reasons given by others here, and while that movie is VERY high on my fave G movie list (probably at the #2 spot) "Godzilla Vs. Gigan" is my absolute #1 fave G movie of ALL time! As for which incarnation of Ghidorah is my least fave, that would easily be the one from GMK, the movie itself is a good one but I hated seeing him castrated like that! :(

Ghidrah, The Three Headed Monster(1964). Ghidrah's entrance scene is outstanding. He serves up devastating city destruction and shows no mercy blasting away at a solo larval Mothra prior to the other kaiju joining the fight. Ghidrah also makes life miserable for Godzilla, Rodan, and Mothra before being finally driven off. The three-headed dragon contributes heavily to the "spectacle" feel of this movie. :)

Even though I voted for G:3HM, I'm surprised that DAM didn't get more votes. It took a handful of monsters, along with Godzilla, to defeat Ghidorah.

True, but he was utterly beaten to a pulp in DAM . . . making it hard to guage just how menacing the creature truly was. The first Ghidorah movie showed that it took three collective kaiju to repel his evil. In DAM well, everyone knew he was in for an ass-kicking. That, and King Ghidorah didn't have enough screen time for DAM.
