Don't mean to bring this back up, but a better example would be
Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie movie from a few years back and the Hitchcock comedy from the 40s. Same title, NOTHING to do with each other whatsoever. So this Inglorious Bastards/Inglorious Basterds thing is nothing new. I'm more interested in why Flame of Udin said QT's movie was horrible since I think its by far his best work in YEARS. For once Tarantino ditched the faux-cool dialogue and told an actual story.
