Is that supposed to be Godzilla in this Poster?

Postby Thomas » Fri Feb 19, 2010 8:55 pm

Just now saw this website that has artwork for Inglorious Basterds on it that are artist interpretations of what banned movie posters for the film would look like if they made them. Some of the posters are pretty sweet, and all the way at the bottom of the page the last one shows the Basterds pouring out of the mouth of a monster that looks uncannily like Godzilla.

Here are the links to judge for yourself:

No, it looks like a fan interpretation of a poster for a terrible remake. Can this topic die now?

On a related note, I'm a big fan of The Patriot (1998) with Steven Seagal and I just saw Roland Emmerich's 2000 remake with Mel Gibson. Terrible, terrible reinterpretation that strayed way too far from the source material. Now this topic needs to die.

Not to go further off-topic, but yeah, Tarantino named his movie "Inglourious Basterds" to further differentiate it from "Inglorious Bastards."

Ha ha. Yeah I'm going to have to say that Inglorious Basterds was not a remake. QT simply borrowed the title. On a different, more on topic note, I think that mouth in the picture may have been partially inspired by Godzilla, but I hardly think that it is Godzilla. Plus its one of the lamer posters IMO. Still kinda cool though.

Don't mean to bring this back up, but a better example would be Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie movie from a few years back and the Hitchcock comedy from the 40s. Same title, NOTHING to do with each other whatsoever. So this Inglorious Bastards/Inglorious Basterds thing is nothing new. I'm more interested in why Flame of Udin said QT's movie was horrible since I think its by far his best work in YEARS. For once Tarantino ditched the faux-cool dialogue and told an actual story.

Man, its like no matter how hard we try to prevent it, this keeps getting more off topic.
