Monster Zero x SciFi Japan - Archive Only

Well, I just bought the ADV Gamera 3 DVD, and while reading the list of DVD extras saw that there was a "commentary by Gamera" feature. After watching the basic version, I quickly went to the commentary expecting to see some stupid, cheesy deal, but what I saw had to be the most hilarious thing I've ever seen. Well, not really... but close. The whole thing was a fake commentary by the supposed "actors" who played Gamera, Iris, and some extra named #6. Apparently Gamera is played by an actor named Cameron Beechum III who has distinguished, european accent and just happens to actually be a 200 ft tall, jet-powered, fire breathing turtle! The Iris actor was less entertaining, but still funny. But the most hilarious part of the whole thing was this #6 guy. He's supposedly a pointless extra who has worked on every single Gamera film and does all these completely unnecessary things like playing background characters you can hardly see and being on the other end of the line when other characters are talking on the phone! I seriously still have not stopped laughing at this thing all day. I apologise if this is all old news for many of you, but I didn't see any previous threads about it... Regardless, if you have the DVD and have not yet watched this feature, go do it now, it's almost worth the price of the DVD alone.

I found it mildy amusing. Soldier # 6 was funny, I agree, but as a whole the commentary was kind of lame. I mean, we could of gotten a good in-depth commentary by someone involved with the film or just someone who happens to be real enthusiastic about the film, but instead we are treated to a so-so gag that stretches on for 110 minutes.

I think the commentary track on Gamera 3 sucked, to be honest. A commentary was a nice idea, but to have it as one big joke doesn't really work. Plus, the outtakes were lacking on G3. The only ones I found somewhat funny was the whole sequence with what's-her-name, Kurata and that guy who they redubbed to sound creepy, and the last outtake with Kurata screaming, "Does anyone have an umbrella?!"

Lake Texarkana Gamera on the Gamera 2 disc was the funniest one of all of ADV's comedy extras. The bit with the military commander overdubbed with a kid's voice cracks me up everytime.
