Apparently Sony are in talks to acquire Kadokawa, with the deal potentially being announced "in the coming weeks."

Though this news is primarily doing the rounds in video game circles due to the impact of Sony potentially owning FromSoftware and games like Elden Ring and Sekiro, another more obvious effect of it from giant monster movie fans is that Gamera would also become Sony-owned property! I wonder if that might provide the kick in the pants it seems Kadokawa needs to give us more than one Gamera project every couple of decades?

The possibility of a veritable monopoly over popular anime (a huge industry) horrifies me far more than the owners of Gamera having more resources makes me glad!

Sony is slowly allowing their rights to the Heisei and Millennium Godzilla films to expire and revert to Toho, gradually shutting the door on their involvement with the Godzilla franchise after more than 30 years. Even if Sony does buy Kadokawa, I don't see them wanting to do anything with Gamera, a far more niche property than Godzilla by any metric.

So, Sony do *not* now own Gamera!

Rather than a buy-out, Sony and Kadokawa have agreed a "strategic capital and business alliance", with Sony now owning 10% of Kadokawa's shares and becoming their largest shareholder. So no "Gamera vs Kratos" crossovers just yet.
