While I would love for this to happen I have to admit it's a much harder sell then a American Godzilla film...Gamera is much more obscure, he lacks the dinosaur appeal that draws in a lot of kids initially to Godzilla and he's also a good guy who tries to prevent buildings from getting smashed as opposed to being a bad guy or a anti hero...and lets face it, more people like Batman then they do Superman

All that being said...an American Gamera movie would easily have to be the film that I would go all Star Wars geek on and camp out in front of a theater for...

the question is "should it happen". and much like an American Godzilla film, the answer is probably no.

I can't see an American Gamera film being anything like what we've been used to. I could see it as a parody film, but I think Godzilla is about the only character hollywood might use seriously.

I know the common response to this is going to be "so what?" or "how is one more ridiculous than the other?" but I still think American audiences would have a tough time accepting a giant, fire breathing turtle with rocket jets coming out of his butt.

I think that it absolutely could.

I read an underground screenplay that was a Gamera reboot called "Guardian" sometime ago that was something akin to Iron Giant meets Godzilla. VERY cool.

If G2014 is a hit, all it would take is the right angle.

If it never comes to fruition, we will always have "Frankeinweeine"! :)

I think that if Legendary Godzilla does as well as we all hope it will, then someone will want to cash in when Godzilla 2 gets made. Hollywood avoids inventing new things when it can, so there may very well be an opening for Gamera down the line. He may sound ridiculous when described to non-fans, but you can make ANYTHING look cool with the right angle. 8)

I love Gamera but to honest there is no way we could get an American Gamera film. Who outside the fandom really knows who Gamera is? I love the series and would love an American version. But the chances of it? Almost zero.

If I were to do a Gamera film I'd kinda remake Gamera: The Brave.

It would have a suburban setting, the lead would be a kind of lonely kid who loves kaiju movies (especially Gamera), he gets a pet turtle, the townspeople start getting replaced by 'Body Snatcher' type aliens, the kid and a few others his own age who become his friends are the only ones who notice something is wrong, as they get more desperate the pet turtle gradually begins transforming into Gamera - ends with a big showdown where Gamera defeats the big bad alien kaiju and the kids rescue the townspeople.

Gimmie 100 million dollars Hollywood!

I should really post some of that up if I can find the PDF.

You'd all love it and maybe someone would be able to figure out just what in the hell it is.

I'm hoping that if the new American film is a success, a rival US studio decides to get the rights to start their own American Kaiju franchise.

Either that or I at least want another 'big budget' Japanese Kaiju film.

I just want more monster films.

I just can't see a US Gamera film ever happening. While Godzilla is a well known character the world over, Gamera is not. My wife, who loves Godzilla, and other sci-fi monster movies, never even heard of Gamera until I was watching one of his movies a few months ago.
