No debating over which is better or which is overrated or underrated. These movies get a significant amount of hype and attention from fans all a like. The day either of the movies are
underrated will be the day Toho decides to take their time on ther giant monster movies. And if you want to rave about a paticular entry being overrated, if not all of them, go type in a LiveJournal or web blog,
I don't care. If Godzilla has numourous movies that are branded masterpieces, classics and so on, I don't think it's hard to accept three movies out of Gamera's entire film career being branded that.
G2 takes the cake for me. Weak characterization, yet, all the more reason it's like the 1950s Sci-Fi movies and Toho's Golden Age of monster movies in the 1960s for everything else. GOTU has more action, big deal. It's a excellent movie but don't care if it's ''a well balance''. G3 is great too, but the whole notion of it being the best since the original GODZILLA is tiring as I don't believe its is the best movie ever made (still a classic). Legion is reminder of the space-alien invasion theme of 1960s monster movies and its very traditonal the Western Sci-fi films too! I love it! They're all great, but G2 stands out for me.

Although it's somewhat old, there is an existing thread and poll that can be found on it .
But tastes change over time, so let's keep this one going. Gives us a chance to have changed our mind, and talk about it fresh.
Me: still G3.

It depends on my mood, really. At any standard time, I would enjoy watching Gamera 2: Advent of Legion the most out of three movies. But, if I just get into that right mood, that mood for something deep, mind-challenging, and epic, and I watch Gamera 3: Incomplete Struggle, there's no question. When I'm in that right mood, I pretty much enjoy it more than any other movie, period.
So yeah, G2 normally, G3 when I'm in the right mood. But, I enjoy G3 so much more when I'm in that right mood than I enjoy G2 at any given time, so I vote G3.
I really don't like Gamera: Guardian of the Universe much at all.

Three. Definitely three. The only modern kaiju film that leaves me in more awe than G3 is Ultraman: The Next. G3 is just a wonderfully crafted film. Sure, it's a lot of talk and little monster action but I love the story of it, even if a few things aren't really explained (but then, I enjoyed Broken Flowers and it explains NOTHING. XD).

I'm surprised. I thought most would vote for GOTU for the sheer fact is has more action, but I'm quite surprised too! I really like all three, to be honest but because G2 reminds of the 1960s monster movies, which has some of my favorite films of that era, it stood out. It', again, can be viewed as a tribute to 1950s Sci-Film films as well.

I've always contended that these are the best kaiju films since, atleast the glory days of old-Showa (though Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, I think, atleast challenges that). Having said that, however, I haven't watched a Heisei Gamera film in a while now. I'm just partial to Godzilla, and Toho in general. Anyway, if I had to pick a favorite (this poll is so old, I actually forgot which film I voted for!), it would probably be Gamera 2: Advent of Legion. As great as G3 is (or atleast, as great as I think it is), G2 is no joke either. It reminds me of the classic Showa Godzilla films so much (particularly Godzilla vs. The Thing and Ghidrah The Three Headed Monster, that it's hard no to like it. To me, it's just the most entertaining. G1 and G3 are just as good, but Advent of Legion is my personal preference.
