Gamera Fan Film: "Guardian"?

Apparently this is happening. A person who shall not be named, has shown still that an independent company is working on this, however this new Gamera film from Japan murkies the waters.

First off, where is that coming from?

Second off, it sounds f*cking terrible.

It's actually because we all know that Gamera's a history buff and thus his mind-melding helping a kid do math is just preposterous.

I have to admit, I kinda like some of the ideas there, it sounds just as wacky as I'd hope Gamera to be. lhb412 said it reads like it was written by a 14-year-old, which I can kinda agree with, and I feel is oddly fitting since the Showa movies could've easily come from the imagination of a child.

All I want to know now is, if this is actually happening (would like the source on that), does this mean we're getting two Gamera movies, or is this the one Hiroshi Sagae talked about?

I'm sure some talented folks could take this and make a real cool Gamera film, but that description reads a bit like it would end up as a film like Dragonball: Evolution; trying to adapt this big, Japanese fantasy franchise but sandwich it into the American teen-movie mold - and you'd need a big budget, which the Dragonball movie did not get (the phrase 'independent company' brings that one to mind).

But, like I said, It could work if the stars lined up.

This is probably the only way to do a Gamera film in America...make it gritty, angsty and dark.

That being said it doesn't sound that bad BUT I do have a huge problem with Gamera seemingly only protecting, or bonding, with children of Atlantean heritage. Gamera is supposed to be the friend of ALL children. This proposed version of Gamera comes across like some sort of angry, (genius?) racist.

I'll continue to state that I think the perfect Gamera tone should be something like Speed Racer or Kung Fu Panda. Light, easily accessible, funny and most of all fun for all ages.

Godzilla has the market in dark kaiju films as far as I'm concerned...let Gamera go a different route.

Theories:

-This is a fan-film

-This is a really low budget thing and will be the Gamera equivalent to that U.S. Ultraman show from the early '90s.

-Asylum acquired the rights to Gamera and are producing a cheapie Gamera film direct-to-video to cash-in on Godzilla ... which would kinda be the greatest thing ever. It would be so appropriate to the legend of Gamera being the cheap, knock-off Godzilla that it would be sublime. If I could pick up a DVD of the direct-to-video U.S. Gamera film on Monday and see Godzilla in theaters Friday I think I can die happy.
