New Gamera Movie in the Near Future?

Who knows about it being dead or even near-dead?....but it certainly doesn't seem like there's any forward momentum right now...

^ They have confirmed they are doing something for the 50th (which is 2015) and preproduction was "well underway" four months ago... so if you consider how short a production schedule is for a Japanese Godzilla film, i think we are still on track to get a new Gamera flick... for better or worse (some of the verbiage so far scares me a little about the direction)

Perhaps for the Japan release of Godzilla things were tight lipped. We'll just have to wait. But its coming.

I'm guessing we will here something very soon to capitalize on Godzilla's surprising success in Japan.

I can't emphasize this enough though, I expect whatever this new Gamera iteration is to be very different from what we all know. Shigenori Takadera is known for turning franchise concepts on their head and he adores Japan folklore. Gamera could be a big yokai in this film for all we know. I just hope he's not all CGI but I suspect/fear that might be the direction they're going.

Its sad to say, but TOHO was right when they said suit acting is out of date.. And why they're letting LP and WB take over.

I'd expect this to be mostly CGI... But I'm starting to wish LP or somebody else got Gamera.

Suit-Acting is only out of date if you care about pseudo-realism. The CGI in the new Godzilla movie is just as fake (and in some cases, looks worse) than the practical effects used to bring Godzilla to life in Final Wars.

Suit-acting, CGI, stop-motion...it's ALL fake. It's just whatever the audience can accept. 100 years from now, when we're just injecting movies into our brains, we're gonna be like "Oh CGI...how quaint."

The new TMNT is actually suit acting with CGI glazed over. Don't tell me suit acting is dead because it is not. Just need to embrace the new and mix it with the old.

Both are cool methods to bring kaiju up to date in the effects department. Toho seems to refuse to explore the possibilities.

I just found a copy of the exact same commercial... that was uploaded on the 3rd of October, 2011



So, not only did this slip by us three years ago, but also puts to bed a fear... this commercial is NOT the new Gamera production!

Seems the new Gamera project is an iPad video game. Lets hope this is just a warm up.

That's about as anti-climatic as I was expecting.

Are we for sure this is the Gamera project we heard about months ago or is this something different?

The Gamera project mentioned months ago had some semi-high caliber names attached to it that I can't see signing up for just a game.

I don't think its THEE Gamera project but his 50th anniversary is just around the corner. It could be a hype game.
