Kadokawa Pictures has provided information and photos from YAKUZA AND THE FAMILY (ヤクザと家族 The Family, Yakuza to Kazoku The Family). The movie is the latest entry from the director and producers of THE JOURNALIST (新聞記者, Shinbun Kisha, 2019), which won the Triple Crown at the 2020 Japan Academy Prize.
YAKUZA AND THE FAMILY is the story of Kenji Yamamoto (Go Ayano), a man who enters into a “father/son” contract with Hiroshi Shibasaki (Hiroshi Tachi), the head of the Shibasaki crime family. The movie charts three periods — 1999, 2005 and 2019 — as the temperamental Yamamoto rises as a yakuza but also deals with the organization’s failing power through these changing times.
Star Go Ayano (RAGE, PUNK SAMURAI SLASH DOWN, THE PROMISED LAND, THE LEGACY OF DR DEATH: BLACK FILE) plays a yakuza for the first time in this film. YAKUZA AND THE FAMILY is scheduled for release in Japan on January 29.
