A SCIFI JAPAN EXCLUSIVE
Toei has provided information and high-res images from their new anime film LOOKING FOR MAGICAL DOREMI (魔女見習いをさがして, Majo Minarai o Sagashite), which celebrates the 20th anniversary of MAGICAL DOREMI (おジャ魔女どれみ, Ojamajo Doremi), the anime series about a young witch that has spawned multiple sequels and feature films. The first season of MAGICAL DOREMI was broadcast on the Asahi Broadcasting networks in 1999-2000 and was overwhelmingly popular, particularly with girls. The main characters of the new movie are three women in their 20s who are part of that generation who watched the anime as children.
LOOKING FOR MAGICAL DOREMI reunites several members of the original MAGICAL DOREMI creative team, including the voice cast, co-directors unichi Sato and Yū Kamatani, screenwriter Midori Kuriyama, character designer Yoshihiko Umakoshi, art director Kenichi Tajiri and color designer Kunio Tsujita.
The movie was originally planned for a Japanese release this past May 15, 2020, but was postponed due to the pandemic and is now scheduled to open on November 13. A special screening was held November 3 during the Tokyo International Film Festival.
Story
“Hey, what do you want to be when you grow up?”
Sora Nagase (Aoi Morikawa), Mire Yoshizuki (Rena Matsui) and Reika Kawatani (Kanako Momota of the J-idol group,Momoiro Clover Z) differ in terms of age, personality and background. Sora is a 22-year-old university student in Nagoya who wants to be a teacher but lacks confidence. 27-year-old Mire got the job she wanted but has struggled to get used to the trading company position in Tokyo. Reika is a 20-year-old freelancer in Onomichi with a dishonest boyfriend.
As children, each of these women were fans of MAGICAL DOREMI. As a break from the grind of their daily lives, each decides to travel to one of the locations depicted on the show. Sora, Mire and Reika meet along the way, and the three strangers quickly become friends as they bond over laughter, tears and mutual support… as if they had known each other all of their lives.
It was MAGICAL DOREMI that brought them together!
