INTRODUCTION
The human race is on the brink of oblivion. The “wings of its demise” descend before its eyes.
This is the concluding chapter of the animated feature film series, GODZILLA (aka “Anigoji,” a portmanteau of “anime” and “gojira”).
20,000 years into the future, the planet is ruled by the ultimate life form, Godzilla Earth. Pitted against him are the straggling remnants of the human race. The final chapter, GODZILLA: THE PLANET EATER, finds the Mechagodzilla City, the peak of scientific evolution and mankind’s best hope, burned to cinders. Godzilla Earth reigns supreme but he has one more challenge: the winged creature, King Ghidorah.
The Godzilla franchise entered new territory in 2017 with GODZILLA: PLANET OF THE MONSTERS (GODZILLA 怪獣惑星, Gojira Kaijuu Wakusei). As the first 3DCG animated, feature-length Godzilla movie ever, it offered a visual experience that was met with widespread acclaim and wonder when it debuted on November 17, 2017. The second chapter, GODZILLA: CITY ON THE EDGE OF BATTLE (GODZILLA 決戦機動増殖都市, Gojira Kessen Kidoo Zooshoku Toshi), featured a newly-interpreted Mechagodzilla that only an animated rendering could accomplish.
With the concluding chapter of the saga, the King of the Void (Ghidorah) squares off against the King of Earth (Godzilla). When the dust settles, will there be anything left for the human race?
Directing the film are Kobun Shizuno, who last year topped the Japanese box office with DETECTIVE CONAN: THE CRIMSON LOVE LETTER (名探偵コナン から紅の恋歌(からくれないのらぶれたー), Meitantei Konan Kara Kurenai no Renka (Kara Kurenai Nora Buretaa), 2017), and Hiroyuki Seshita, who has burnished his reputation for gripping animated storytelling with such TV and film franchises as KNIGHTS OF SIDONIA: BATTLE FOR PLANET 9 (シドニアの騎士 第九惑星戦役, Shidonia no Kishi Dai-kyuu Wakusei Seneki, 2015), AJIN: DEMI-HUMAN (亜人, Ajin, 2016) and BLAME! (ブラム, Buramu, 2017). Together this prodigious duo have forged a 3DCG genre of cutting edge expression. And now they bring all their talent to bear on this final chapter of the Godzilla saga.
The story and screenplay were written by Gen Urobuchi, famously known for his PUELLA MAGI MADOKA MAGICA (魔法少女まどか☆マギカ, Maho Shojo Madoka Magika, 2011) series and the 2012 animated movie, PSYCHO-PASS (サイコパス, Saiko Pasu). Urobuchi has a gift for creating mind-bending, innovative ideas that are sure to surprise and surpass audience expectations in this finale.

The film is produced by the internationally-acclaimed 3DCG studio, Polygon Pictures, four-time Emmy Award winner (Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Class Animated Program). Polygon is now at work on the latest animated series inthe Star Wars universe; STAR WARS: RESISTANCE.
Creating a brave new world soundscape with his bold yet delicate film score is Takayuki Hattori, who composed music for GODZILLA 2000 (ゴジラ2000 ミレニアム, Gojira Nisen: Mireniamu, 1999) and DORAEMON THE MOVIE: NOBITA’S TREASURE ISLAND (映画ドラえもん のび太の宝島, Eiga Doraemon Nobita no Takarajima, 2018). And returning to perform the theme song, “live and die”, is recording artist, XAI, first winner of the “Artist” category in the 8th Toho Cinderella Audition. She is again joined by musical composition producer Masayuki Nakano of BOOM BOOM SATELLITES.
STORY
A door opens and a golden seal shatters a star…
In the early 21st century, Mankind lost the battle for planet Earth to Godzilla, and has taken to the stars aboard the migrant ship, Aratrum, in search of a new home. Unfortunately, the search ends in vain, forcing them and their alien allies back to Earth. But, due to a distortion in space-time caused by the long-distance sub-space jump, 20,000 years have passed in their absence, and the Earth is a wholly different place.
The planet’s flora and fauna now embody and serve Godzilla. Earth is a monster’s planet, ruled by the largest Godzilla ever at 300 meters in height… Godzilla Earth.
The human protagonist, Captain Haruo Sakaki, yearns to defeat Godzilla and retake the planet for mankind. There, he meets the Houtua tribe, aboriginal descendants of the human race. The Houtua twin sisters, Maina and Miana, lead him to the skeletal remains of Mechagodzilla, an old anti-Godzilla weapon, which to everyone’s surprise is still alive in the form of self-generating nanometal. Taken from the Mechagodzilla debris, the nanometals have gradually been rebuilding a “Mechagodzilla City,” a potential weapon capable of destroying Godzilla Earth.
As the strategy develops, a rift forms between the humans and the Bilusaludo, one of two alien races that had joined the humans on their exodus from Earth. Their leader, Mulu-Elu Galu-Gu, believes that the secret to defeating Godzilla lies in the use of superhuman powers — namely, the nanometal integration — but Haruo resists, fearing that in defeating monsters, they must not become monsters themselves. Haruo ultimately uses his means for defeating Godzilla Earth to destroy the Mechagodzilla city so as to prevent nanometal assimilation, killing Galu-gu. However, his childhood friend, Yuko Tani, has been absorbed by the nanometal integration and fallen into a coma.
Once again, the human race is lost. Metphies, the archbishop of the religious Exif alien race, marvels that Haruo once again survived the battle with Godzilla. He espouses that Haruo’s life is a “miracle”, and begins to attract a stronger following to the Exif faith. The aliens have secretly harbored this outcome as their ultimate goal. Miana and Maina issue warnings against Metphies, while Haruo begins to question mankind’s next move.
With no means for defeating Godzilla Earth, mankind watches as King Ghidorah, clad in a golden light, descends on the planet. The heavens and earth shake once again as the war moves to a higher dimension.
What is Godzilla, exactly? Does mankind stand a chance? Is there a future vision in Haruo’s eyes? Find out in the finale, when it all becomes clear…
MONSTERS
■ Godzilla Earth
Godzilla Earth is the original Godzilla, who first appeared in the United States in the year 2030.
After driving mankind off of the Earth, it continued to grow for 20,000 years and became a super-giant organism with a height exceeding 300 meters and a mass of over 100,000 tons. It boasts muscle fibers composed of body tissues containing unknown metallic elements that generated electromagnetic waves causing planetary-scale climate change. In addition to the “heat-ray” attack, Godzilla Earth has a “super vibration wave” attack capable of pulverizing substances to the molecular level by resonance fracture due to ultra-high output electromagnetic microwaves.
■ Ghidorah
Long ago, the gigantic inter-dimensional monster Ghidorah appeared in the Perseus BD+48°740 star system and destroyed its fourth planet, Exifilcas, the homeworld of the Exif. Since then, the monster has devoured and destroyed thousands of worlds using super-gravity.
