RIP Yuriko Hoshi (1943-2018)

According to August Ragone, actress Yuriko Hoshi has died at the age of 74, due to lung cancer

Yuriko was a favorite of mine playing very lovable characters in "Godzilla vs. The Thing" (Mothra vs. Godzilla, for those who prefer that title) & "Ghidrah, The Three-Headed Monster" as well as dramatic roles in "The Last War" and "Chushingura". And while "Godzilla vs. Megaguirus" was not a favorite of mine, I liked that her return to the series, did not amount to a mere cameo.

74 is way too young.

Very sad to hear this. Her roles in Mothra vs. Godzilla and Ghidorah (especially Ghidorah) are iconic.

And yes; 74 is too young.

Yes, 74 is too young to go but it's not nothing. I'm glad that Yuriko Hoshi got to live such a long life and I think it's great that she kept acting right up through last year. I've always known her from her fantastic star turns in Mothra vs. Godzilla and Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster and her return to the franchise was the best thing about Godzilla vs. Megaguirus. I really need to see The Last War.

Perhaps someday, the powers that be, will eventually release "The Last War" on DVD and blu-ray, along with the other Brenco titles.

As for "Chushingura", I hope that Criterion can eventually get their hands on that title, the so-called "Gone With the Wind of Japan", and give it a good restoration and blu-ray release. Yuriko Hoshi was just strikingly beautiful on that film, and she and Yosuke Natsuki played a love interest, while in "Ghidrah" of course, they played brother and sister. Sad to think that both of them are gone, and in just a matter of months.

I may not know her, but all her fans are going to miss her. :(
