I've read both Meg and The Trench but can't say I'm too excited for this.

So it seems Eli Roth (Hostel) is attached and they are moving the action to China.

{TB EXCLUSIVE} LONG-AWAITED GIANT SHARK THRILLER “MEG” SWIMS TO WARNER BROS.
The project has famously been in development hell for nearly twenty years.

Well, Warner Brothers has finally released the first trailer. It starts out intense, but then they go on a dumb fun angle:

Agreed! Started out really scary and intense then turned into one of those dumb Sharknado type movies. I hope this is just the trailer and not the actual tone of the movie. If this turns out to be a Jaws type movie with a 100 foot shark then that would be awesome!

I was all happy to see a giant squid. This just looks like a higher caliber SyFy channel movie.

Will watch if Ruby Rose gets naked again...

Speaking of giant squid, I wish they would release a nicer copy of Peter Benchleys "The Beast." Probably the best giant squid focused movie ever. (It came from beneath the sea doesn't count that is an octopus)

What. Utter. Garbage.

I've read the book many times, and not one scene in the trailer looks like it came from the pages. The CGI looks predictably bad, and the song choice is head-shakingly poor. The trailer looks like it's been cut with all the skill and precision of a first-year film school dropout, with so many comedic bits it wouldn't take much to have this be seen as a comedy. I've been waiting for this movie for years upon years, getting excited with every new advancement only to have it plunge back into development hell. If this is, indeed, the final product, I'd have gladly waited another decade if it meant getting something better.

Of course, this is only the first trailer. They have time to fix their mistakes for the most part, but they have to remember that old truism that you never get a second chance to make a first impression.

For what it's worth, the international trailer is marginally better:

Looks like it could be fun. Hard to say 'no' to a straightforward monster movie.

I hasn't heard heard or read any news about this movie. I doubt that it will go on the movie screen. Of course, I could be wrong.

I hope someone is holding on to the rights to a Meg vs Mo sequel (Megladon vs Mosasur) . I'd like to see a decent film rather than the Asylum get their grubby hands on it.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

The trailer gives me a real Snakes on a Plane vibe. I think this could be fun.

The only one of Jon Turteltaub's movies that I've seen is National Treasure. I remember liking it but I haven't watched it since I was in high school.

^ Let us know what you thought. I'm hoping to catch it later this week.

The Meg just debuted to an estimated $44.5 million in North America. For domestic opening weekend comparisons, that's 58 percent more than Pacific Rim: Uprising ($28.1m) and 24 percent higher than Rampage ($35.7m).

This is also after The Shallows earned $55m domestic toward a $119m worldwide total on a $17m budget in 2016. Last year, 47 Meters Down went from an $11m opening weekend to a $44m domestic total and now The Meg has matched that total in just its opening weekend. It looks like today's audiences are still hungry for shark thrillers.

I had fun. Saw it in IMAX. Will pick it up on BD. It was well-paced, surprisingly they didn't sequel bait
