THR:
How Important Are Directors to Marvel Movies?
The most important vision behind a Marvel Studios production belongs to the studio, not the filmmaker.

Ah, yes; now shrinking movies are gonna be a thing (Downsizing is totally a riff on that Ultra Q episode).

I wonder if this spells good or bad news for the James Cameron/Guillermo del Toro version of Fantastic Voyage?

The 1/8th Project was one of the best episodes of Ultra Q, so this is great news. Based on the clip described in the link, here's my guess as to the direction I hope they go. I think it's conspicuous that they split up the men and women. Maybe the process doesn't work on Kristen Wiig's character, forcing Matt Damon to go on with his shrunken life without her. Damon falls for another shrunken woman, bitter love triangle ensues, and the third act is Wiig going full-on kaiju in a downsized city. Please let that be it!

AICN Legends: Mr. Beaks And Rick Baker Discuss The Retro Aliens Of MEN IN BLACK III And Much More!
Mr. Beaks wrote:Beaks: That actually leads me to my next question. You belong to a proud fraternity of performers who've acted in a gorilla suit. There's George Barrows, Charles Gemora... all the way to Bob Burns. I actually did a top ten list of my favorite gorilla suit gags, and you were on there twice: once for Dino in THE KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE and again for Sidney in THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING WOMAN. When's the last time you had a gorilla suit on?

Baker: I haven't had a gorilla suit on in quite a few years now. I actually think I had part of one on when we did the Ro-Man thing to look at something. It's hard work. (Laughs) It's kind of a thankless job. Any suit performer experiences that same thing. You're very aware that you have this suit on. You can't see very well, you can't breathe very well, and it gets really hot. You're uncomfortable, but nobody else is. When I did [KING KONG '76], I'd put the suit on as soon as I got to work and wear it all day long. I'd take it off for lunch, but then put it on again - sometimes for no reason whatsoever. But that's the way it worked. It was a really hot summer, and it was all bluescreen stuff in the old days of photochemical compositing. The whole crew had shorts on, half of them didn't have shirts on, and I'm in this suit.
I remember Bob telling me early on, "They don't treat you like a person when you have a suit on." He'd tell me stories of one guy trying to set him on fire, and another guy trying to throw lye on him. He also told me about a guy in a Tweety Bird costume at Magic Mountain getting rolled down a hill by some kids, so he ended up getting a great big hatpin. He'd keep it inside the costume, and if anyone would get too close he's [stick] them. You forget that there's a person in there. I'm glad I had those experiences, but I don't know that I'd do it for a film again. I'm too old and not in good enough shape.
Beaks: Will we ever see your version of The Creature?

Baker: I've done a number of designs for the Creature. At one point Landis was going to do it, and at another point Joe Dante and Mike Finnell were going to do it, and then John Carpenter was going to do it. The Carpenter one was the one that went the furthest; we actually did a whole bunch of designs and maquettes, and then that crapped out. The last time somebody talked to me about it was when Ivan Reitman had the film, but their thinking was so different from my thinking was that I didn't want anything to do with it. They were making it part-dinosaur, part-every fish in the world. It wasn't the Gill Man. I think if it's to be done today, it should be a CG thing. I can't believe I'm saying that, but the fact that all the underwater stuff is such an ordeal for a guy who has to breathe underwater, and then what happens to the costume. It seems perfect for a CG character. The thing is, the original Gill Man design is still so great. My designs for the Creature were kind of like my designs for the Wolf Man; it was very much based on a love for the original material, and trying to stay true to that in a lot of ways. I think we had a Creature that was updated, but you could still tell where it came from.
Beaks: I'd still love to see it.

Baker: Well, I'm doing this book on my career, and there are going to be some sketches in there, along with pictures of things no one has ever seen.

Whatever Happened to John Carpenter's Creature From The Black Lagoon?
Universal's classic monster movie Creature From The Black Lagoon was almost remade by John Carpenter in the 1990s. So what happened?

I saw Ant-Man on DVD. It featured both the Scott Lang and Hank Pym version of the character. I like how the writers made Hank Pym a mentor to Scott Lang and I like Scott's appearance in Captain America: Civil War. I can't wait for the sequel.

^Wow, I hadn't figured that angle: when so many of Wright's team walked from Ant-Man with him he had extra incentive to get a movie into production because he wanted to keep those people employed!

Just caught the trailer and... WOW. This movie looks like a TON of fun. Not even sure what the storyline/plot is, but the visuals just blew me away. They have really mastered the shrinking/growing F/X and some of the gags, however briefly they were onscreen, looked absolutely amazing and wickedly ingenious. Cannot wait for this.

With this engaging new trailer, plus all the good spoiler-free early review news coming in about BLACK PANTHER, this looks to be a triple threat homerun year for Marvel ...and its fans.

Once again it appears my suffering through marvels current animated series on Disney Channel has paid off. They had been showing off The Ghost quite a bit, now I know why as he appears to be the antagonist of this new film. The film looks amazing & fun. Looking forward to it in the summer.

Also...you heard it here today. Even though the end of spider-Man homecoming showed off certain potential villains, I'm betting heavy on Task Master to show up.

^ I never understood when they release blockbusters in the UK first for the same reason. Seems you'd want it in the biggest market before stuff started leaking.

Have they addressed when Ant Man and Wasp takes place with respect to Infinity War?

usually if they do, its a couple days. In their Culture a mid wee release may be akin to the United States and the predisposition that big movie releases usually occur on Fridays. But in many parts of the world sports viewing is far more popular than movie going. They released Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom two weeks early to avoid potentially losing viewers to the World Cup. Ant Man & Wasp is doing the same, just delaying their release instead of bumping it up. In the Unites States, the only thing we have to compare to is The Super Bowl, which is a single day, whereas World Cup is a couple weeks long.

I mean I know in the last couple years there have been a few big releases in February, but that was not the case up until recently. Still from January 1 to the first weekend in February (Super Bowl), you generally wont see any big movie releases. And even if there was a breakout hit in early January, historically, movies will avoid release over the weekend in which the Super Bowl takes place for obvious reasons. I mean I'm not a soccer fan myself, but there's no denying the popularity of World Cup outside the United States, and the rest of the world literally does almost stop everything (including going to the movies) to watch it.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think I read somewhere it supposedly takes place a very short time after the first Ant Man (akin to GotG 1&2), so it may actually take place before Civil War, but we'll have wait and see. I was thinking if he grows into Giant Man as seen in the previews and passes out, that may be the *one other time* he was referring to in Civil War...

I thought it took place concurrent with IW, thus explaining why Ant-Man wasn't there in IW. He took some kind of deal to work with/for the government or something so he could be with his daughter.

^^ I think in one of the trailers Ant-man asks Wasp if she would have been with him on Captains side or Iron Man's side, and she responds "guess we'll never know".

I would expect it to take place in between the Wars (Civil and Infinity) but since the film is being released after IW it could take place after (remember how Winter Soldier upended S.H.I.E.L.D mid-season with its impact to the MCU)

You are right, totally forgot about that  . I think it would be cool if it took place concurrent with IW, and at the end we see half the people start disappearing. One way or the other I'm sure marvel will provide a satisfying story as it relates to the other MCU entries.
