Huh, yeah. Right now it’s cheaper to buy the individual sets. But I’m sure the price will come down in time.

While this box set is interesting, for me it will be very much double-dipping. Plus, outside of the first Karloff "Mummy" film, I'm not too crazy about the other movies in that series that followed.

I would have considered this had Universal decided add on their 1950s sci-fi features. Alas, only "It Came From Outer Space" and the soon to-be-released Gill Man films have received blu-ray honors.

Warner Archive just announced they're releasing the original Village of the Damned on Blu sometime soon (they usually come out a month after they're announced).

The 80s Italian Jawsplotation film Monster Shark aka Devil Fish will be getting a Blu-ray release on July 3rd.

Right now Best Buy is the best place to get it because they have it listed for $19.99 whereas Amazon has it for $24.96.

I'm like the opposite almost. I find the first one a little dull, but the next 3 or 4 to be really fun romps (whatever the last one is isn't good, but the other...few are fun)

I love The Mummy's Hand. Too bad they kill everyone off in Tomb, though.

I've only seen the first of the classic mummies. For some reason I just never cared for the character. I prefer the Fraser mummy films to be honest

When it comes to mummy movies I only really like the first classic Universal one, the first Hammer one, and the first Brendan Frasier one.

They'd make a nice triple feature!

Greetings,

I was just curious, I used to check frequently: tvshowsondvd.com to get the latest news on new releases. However, this site is now defunct. I was wondering what sites most users here go to for the best up to date announcements on new DVD/Blu Ray releases? Any assistance is appreciated. Thank you.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

I used to use the release list on http://www.TheDigitalBits.com but stopped some years ago because their list became strangely flooded with porn-type titles which made finding the regular releases difficult (the ratio was something like 20 to 1 when I stopped). I just looked again, and it seems The Digital Bits has improved their release list and should be useful for seeing what's upcoming again.

Nowadays, I mostly just keep track of the what's coming on blu-ray through http://www.blu-ray.com . Besides the main site, blu-ray.com has a forum which also includes a DVD sub-forum where DVD only releases usually are posted about by members (such as the recent Porky Pig 101).

The sequel Mummy movies are quite different. Maybe worth a look. They're generally brisk and lean almost more zombie (in a voodoo sense) than what we've come to think of with Mummy (especially in the years since the Fraser films).

I really like the first Fraser film. It's been forever since I've seen 2 or 3, but I don't recall really loving 2 and 3 being just really phoned-in feeling.

^ i really liked the second one when it was released, but the effects work was a bit rough even when it was released. The third one I saw once and have largely forgotten. I think maybe i should revisit all three this October as part of the Halloween lead-in

I've tried watching the first Fraser Mummy movie, but found nothing about it even the slightest bit appealing. Just yer standard sound and fury.

The original The Mummy is one of my very favorite Universal flicks, though obviously that's a fairly broad category. A lot of that comes down to Karloff's performance.

The sequels are... difficult for me to rate. I loved The Mummy's Hand when I was a kid, but now I watch it and I'm disappointed in how quickly it rushes through its conflict once things finally get up and running. Tomb doesn't click with me at all, because it really has no story or structure. Ghost has some cool ideas, Carradine is always a delight, and the ending is wonderful, but overall the execution is pretty mediocre. Curse is by no means good, but it's silly and entertaining; it's really Martin Kosleck who makes it work for me.

None of the Hammer Mummy flicks entirely work for me. Their first feels like a kind of Cliff's Notes review of the Universal series, and Curse of the Mummy's Tomb and The Mummy's Shroud are both just terribly bland; Blood from the Mummy's Tomb is the closest thing to a real stand-out.

A movie with Brendan Fraser has at least one appealing element from the instant it casts Brendan Fraser.

Brendan Fraser is on the cusp of a Keanu-like reappraisal and popularity.

Kino has acquired 100 films from Universal. Hopefully we'll get some classic horror and sci-fi films that weren't touched by the Legacy Collections!

I thought Media Blasters was done, but apparently they're putting Zatoichi '89 on Blu next month. That's the final Zatoichi movie Shintaro Katsu made, and the only one not included in Criterion's box set.

Scream Factory releasing Candyman, The Craft, all the Critters films in one set, and a Hammer film! ... The previously released and out of print Dracula: Prince of Darkness (I have the first release, but I'm tempted to get this one to encourage them to acquire more Hammer).

PUMPED about Candyman.

Critters will depend on price but I may get it.
