Yeah, that statement about the Emperor really jumped out at me, especially since JJ has been trying to convince people that bringing him back was the plan all along (when we've known for years that there was no plan for this trilogy). It seems pretty clear that this is just how JJ puts Snoke back into the story without making it too on-the-nose that he's ignoring the direction Rian Johnson pointed the story towards. Snoke was such a blatant carbon(ite) copy of the Emperor that the characters are basically interchangeable. I only hope that JJ uses the opportunity of bringing the Emperor back to do something interesting with him.

I never want to hear the phrase "Star Wars" again. The discourse around the franchise is so unpleasant it saps everything else. Let's all become Planet of the Apes fans instead.

I fear Disney will make the same mess with Planet of the Apes as they have with Star Wars. I use to love Star Wars, now I can't stand it. And I love the Planet of the Apes movies, so I hope it stays that way. Only time will tell...

^ It's the fan reaction/complaints/discourse/discussion that's the worst. I have problems with Disney in regards to their burgeoning monopoly, but that's not what I'm talking about in this case. Planet of the Apes has no similar overzealous fanbase, so even if a terrible movie was released it still wouldn't be as much of a ****show.

I'm not sure about that. Tim Burton's *Apes* had the advantage of being released in the very early days of the Internet, and with very little social media presence. Release that same film today, and I guaranty a backlash probably on par with Ghostbusters 2016.

Toxicity is Bad, and yes some fans do ruin things. But there's nothing wrong with being passionate. I *hate* that Disney tossed out the EU in favor of their own stories. TFA was ok, Rogue One is a legit great film, I highly enjoy. TLJ is garbage, and Solo is meh... I am very much enjoying The Mandalorian, and have enjoyed Clone Wars & Rebels. I have yet to see an episode of Resistance, because I cant stand the the style of it. So its been a mixed bag for me.

I did skip Solo in the theater, but I imagine I'll see *Rise* eventually. Not in a rush to see it first week or anything, but I figure I'll get to it before it leaves theaters.

^ While I have no sympathy with the average mega mega-corporation (isn't that what they're called in Judge Dredd?), the last few years have taught me that no one is more annoying and unsympathetic than the quote-unquote fans. It feels like nerd culture has won the culture war and they are the most ungrateful winners in history; whiny, self-important and self-aggrandizing, prone to commit acts of mass harassment, and in their view they are always - always the victim despite the fact that said mega-corporations have devoted almost their entire production line into serving specifically them and pop culture as a whole has been almost entirely retrofitted to their tastes.

Those bullies in all those 80s comedies were right all along!

lhb, I reckon you're better off steering well clear of social media. That's what I do. Truth be told, I've never bothered with it myself. Facebook, twitter, none of it. Heck, i haven't seen the new sequel films either. I'm just not interested in any of them. (I will always have a place in my heart for the original films. I enjoyed the prequels too, though I've not seen 'em in many years)

However, I've been following a few Youtube channels covering a lot of the goings-on. It's not just the twitterati outrage merchants, but also a few like-minded journalists, bloggers an' such throwing out the usual insults; toxic manbabies, basement-dwellers, fanboys, people of low morals and questionable character - acting pretty much like the bullies in those '80s flicks. Casting aspersions on fans just because they don't like a particular movie or how the characters were handled. I've seen similar sentiments with the new Ghostbusters trailer. There's one chap over at Wired.com moping about how the new flick shouldn't reward regressive fanboys, or something along those lines.

I don't like to use the term SJW, (I think it's been overused to the point where it's lost all meaning, like a lot of internet buzzwords) but i think that overly sensitive crowd, along with a few attention-seeking muckrakers, seem to spout the most vitriol from what I've come across. A lot of the nerd rage I've seen seems to be in response to that most vociferous lot.

For what it's worth, I'm no fan of them either. Bunch of self-righteous judgemental whiners, the lot of 'em.
