^ The comic story it's based off is the middle part of three parts which, when taken together, forms the middle part of the three-act structure of Hellboy's life. It was published roughly a decade and a half into the character's run... which just gives you a understanding of just how utterly wrong such a story is as square one in a new reboot.

Fans were absolutely perplexed by it, and by the Monday after its release had already seemingly forgot the film and we're more interested in the next issue of the comic book!

Space Adventure Cobra

Hmmmm... Cobra is a character that could totally be revived in a new anime. He's basically just beefy Lupin in a Euro-comic influenced sci-fi setting.

Watched 'A Simple Favor' last night - Kind of a dark comedy crossed with a murder thriller. Its like there were two different scripts, a dramatic "Gone Girl" script and a goofy "Paul Feig" script and the latter peaks out from time to time in sometimes clever and sometimes tonal whiplash ways. Not for the kiddos by any stretch.

The Curse of La Llorona - This "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" was dumb. Like really dumb. Not even a case of, "It's so bad it's good" type of thing going on here, just straight up dumb as "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!". Like I can't even be mad at it because of how dumb it was. It was no where near as bad as Hellboy, The Lion King, or Glass, but just as stupid. I guess I should have expected such given it is part of The Conjuring universe, but other other than one scene, it played every horror trope imaginable and played them beat by beat. Oh, and the ghost has got to be the most pathetic, weakest ghost in the history of cinema. Casper could whoop Llorona's ass. Overall, I'm going to give it a stupid ass 4/10 because it at least wasn't boring.

Ready or Not

Listen fellas: this is a new horror comedy in theaters right now. It's got a few twists, some wicked gore, and what is hopefully a star-making lead performance from actress Samara Weaving. This is one you're going to want to see in the theater, and if you don't and you see it at home in the next year or two you're going to be kicking yourself for missing it up on the big screen!

I say it's a rollicking horror comedy that should be seen on the big screen. I stand by my statement.

Godzilla KoTM This was a pretty inevitable day one purchase for me. I saw it twice in the theater, and THIS was my third viewing. I really like this film, what can I say? It delivered exactly what I expected and wanted- No more, no less, so rare in this day and age. I'm often accused of viewing older things with *Nostalgia Glasses*, what is the opposite of that? The *New Girlfriend Effect*? Because I really like this movie, and right now, I could probably be accused of heresy as to where I would place it in the overall ranking of Godzilla films, but I figure I'll give it some time, maybe a couple years before I finally determine where it will settle in the overall film series. I've heard some people be critical in that fans of certain genres shouldn't make films about them. However I've experienced examples of both fans and non fans ruining things I enjoy. In this case however, I think it was a good thing. Truth be told, if I were able to direct a Godzilla film it would probably be very similar. Not 100% because every director has their own vision, but in the ballpark lets say (no pun intended). I only wish that Toho didn't put a price tag on every kaiju. While the originals had cool designs, my one complaint is that we didn't see enough of them. One could pretty clearly see though, if LP/Dougherty would have been allowed, those ALL would have been other Toho kaiju.

The Ewok Adventure Caravan of Courage - This was one of Mrs. Klen7s favorite movies as a kid. No additional commentary to add.

Aquaman - Honestly surprised this was as well received as it was - i guess people like the actor, because most of the dialogue was cringe-worthy and some of the CG looked painfully unfinished. Very underwhelming, coupled with a long runtime. I normally enjoy James Wan but the characters and plot are so thin, it feels like he acted as more of producer on this. Not a fan

^ I enjoyed that one! I mean, maybe some of the CGI seemed unfinished, but the entire film was so cartoony I don't think anything stood out. It was like the Flash Gordon movie from the 1980s or like a film version of a kind of fantasy scene you'd see airbrushed on the side of a van. Just whole-hog absurdity. Every crazy thing from the silver age comics with no concern at all about modernizing or making it gritty! He rides a sea-horse!

Also, great use of bright, vibrant colors and James Wan's directorial style shines through through most of the movie, whether it's action scenes or dialogue scenes. Deficits I think a lot of superhero movies have these days.

Ichi the Killer

This is another one of those movies I read a review of when I was 15 and I'm just now, 16 years later, watching. Its reputation as being the most debauched, morally repulsive movie ever is... I mean, it's not quite that. It's obvious Takeshi Miike is trying to push your buttons, but ultimately I think he's too empathetic a director to make something truly repulsive.



The best part of the film is watching all these tough looking yakuza be constantly on edge around Kakihara because they're never quite sure when they're around him if they're about to see something absolutely horrific.

A couple of kaiju movie veterans in this one as well.

Midsommar

I missed this film as it ended its first run a month or so ago. I actually got to the theater during one of the last showings at the time and, thanks to an incredibly slow clerk and a few old ladies ahead of me making me even more late, I decided it just wasn't to be. Happily, the director's cut, a full three hours long (!), came back into theaters this weekend!

It's quite good, and a remarkably well assembled and realized world into itself, but I don't think it's a match for either The Wicker Man or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the two films it feels like a combined remake of.

Ready or Not (2019) - Awesome from beginning to end. Another horror highlight in what's been a fantastic decade for horror movies. Samara Weaving owns the film with her star performance and that's even with a strong ensemble of actors all around. One of the best films of the year and absolutely worth seeing on the big screen.
