GODZILLA: King of the Monsters (5-31-19 -NO SPOILERS PLEASE)

I keep tabs on a few franchises...

...and this is the ONLY one where spoilers are so RAMPANT that you might accidentally get spoiled just by....BREATHING AIR.

Split came out and it took WEEKS for people to start even tangentially discussing the spoilers....and it had been screened MONTHS prior to its official release.
Avengers Endgame is coming out and I know a few broadstrokes things...kinda.
Captain Marvel is in like a month, and I know that Captain Marvel is in it.

King of the Monsters is still MONTHS away and people already know major spoilers and are discussing them. Publicly.

Why do people think that's okay? Why do people WANT to do that? You have the rest of your life AFTER the movie comes out to be able to talk about that stuff. You have ONE chance to see a movie unspoiled...I don't get it.

Godzilla and Star Wars are the only two I can think of where you have to like...lock yourself completely out of pre-release discussion because you WILL get spoiled by someone if you dare to talk about it or take some guesses.

Spoiled rotten crybabies who simply don't have the patience to wait for anything and must have their's RIGHT NOW perhaps? Just like damn near everything else these days.

All I can say is thank God that the internet and all of this electronic/social-sharing technology did NOT exist back in the past 70 years... or else so many of the movies and TV shows we now fondly call beloved would just be flotsam tossed into the social pond to be shredded before it ever got a chance to become beloved.

Me personally, I love spoilers, the more the better. I can't think of a time where I've ever had a spoiler negatively affect a film. If anything they make the movie better as when I already know the whole plot, then I don't get confused if I miss the blink and you will miss it crucial to the plot scenes such as when I have to leave the theater to use the bathroom because I've just consumed 2 gallons of coke while sitting through 40 minutes of previews. Also most of my childhood was about spoiling Godzilla films that weren't available in the states. That said I respect other people's right not to be spoiled.

My streak so far by not viewing a single trailer so far has continued. Plot spoilers don't bother me a ton, its the feel and look of the movie being spoiled, or the movie being misrepresented in the trailer that will tick me off.

Any movie with toy tie-ins is likely to have spoilers come through. Giant-Man in Civil War was the same. But as for the Jakks' spoilers...

When I was determined to avoid spoilers for G'14, I stopped checking this section of the board on the day that the first script leaks landed. It really was the only way to avoid spoilers.

It was because I felt like my efforts were mostly unnecessary that I haven't bothered to avoid spoilers for King of the Monsters. There really wasn't anything about the plot of G'14 that ended up being a surprise, from the character fates to the outcome of the monster showdown. These big-budget Hollywood monster mashes are a lot of fun and I'm so glad they're being made but they're not trying to reinvent the storytelling wheel. They're reveling in known blockbuster tropes, from Pacific Rim to Kong: Skull Island, and it's not so much the stories they tell but how they tell them that makes them worthwhile. How these movies play out is the kind of thing that can be spoiled for me if I watch too many clips or trailers beforehand but the specifics of the plot tend to be a mix-and-match of known quantities. Even if I can't predict the final combination, none of the plot elements are surprises unto themselves so I don't mind learning them ahead of time.

The Godzilla anime trilogy, on the other hand, was something about which I didn't know what to expect so I'm glad that I avoided spoilers for all of those films. They actually managed to surprise me and I loved that.

Based on a couple of the comments in the warning thread, as well as some "recommended" Youtube thumbnails (thanks for that, Youtube!) I think I've got a pretty good idea of what the toy spoils. I kinda hope it's what I'm thinking of anyway, otherwise that means there's something else out there that I'll probably end up having spoiled before I can actually see it in the film for myself (which'll probably happen one way or another anyway).

And yeah, I agree with Jelly. I mean, I [img]kinda[/img] get why people want to find out as much new information about a cool thing they're looking forward to that's still months away, but still, at the end of the day I don't get why you would be ok with ruining the experience for yourself by going in knowing every single thing that's going to happen. Like he said, you only get to watch a movie unspoiled once, after that you can watch it as many times as you like knowing how everything is going to go, and its absolutely not the same experience.

Still, at least here people were good enough to make separate spoiler and non-spoiler threads to discuss this. I've been on some boards where it's just assumed that everyone wants to be spoiled 100% and that openly talking about spoilers months before release is something everyone is cool with, which pretty much means you're sol if you want to talk about it without having read every draft of the leaked scripts and all the latest test screening reports.

As a toy collector, toy-based spoilers strike me as the most inconsequential that you can get, so I never worry about them. They aren’t the same as a major breakdown of plot points or full scripts. For TV shows like Rider or Sentai they’re an integral part of the series and so I roll my eyes a bit at things like being upset at a new form change or character being revealed a couple weeks before the show introduces it. Definitely not the same with movies but inevitably these things will be known if they’re in the merchandise - I’d hope someone won’t throw a tantrum if they walk down the toy aisle while movie Godzilla toys are in-stock.

Was watching parts of Godzilla vs Biollante on youtube and one of the comments mentioned how how much more expressive that head/suit/design was than the current incarnation. Even the deep guttural roar was great.

How can a man in a suit and a puppet head in 1989 be so far superior to the latest CGI in 2014-present?

Yup, totally a call back to Ghidrah The Three-Headed Monster.

I know this technically isn't a remake of that film, yet it's also very much a remake of of that film.
