Saw Venom. It is dumb. Although I did enjoy watching it I would not say it was good. Honestly the movie could have been 2 hours of Hardy talking to Venom and I would have enjoyed it more.

That was a perfectly okay movie. Nothing special, I'll probably never feel terribly compelled to watch it again, but it was a fun couple of hours. Tom Hardy was good, the action was decent, and at times it was really funny. I wish they had leaned a lot more into the dark comedy.

The people declaring it "so bad it's good" are engaging in absurd hyperbole.

I watched this last night with a group of friends and I thought it was okay. It's not bad and its not great either its just okay.

I did like all the easter eggs they threw in the film but there was a few things I didn't like.

The Meg. The Predator. The Nun. Rampage. Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom. Pacific Rim Uprising.

2018 has been CHOCK FULL of movies that have no idea how to movie. Movies that don't understand basic plot, structure, story, character arcs, and (sometimes) direction...not to mention a WEALTH of horrible HORRIBLE effects in movies that cost WAY too much money to be so slapdash in appearance.

Throw Venom on that pile.

All of these movies have one thing in common: they're just fun enough to placate whoever's already going to be a fan of them no matter what and quell all but the most ardent critics into just allowing those people to have their fun without overly challenging them.

I'm glad it's been a good year for smaller movies like Hereditary and Sorry to Bother You and Upgrade and Mandy and The Ritual and Apostle and Revenge and A Quiet Place....because it's been a TRAINWRECK for blockbusters.

I don't know what to say, but I'm one of those people that went in expecting a complete effing trainwreck the likes of which aren't seen outside a DC movie. It looked incredibly worrisome in the first trailer, and I remained super-skeptical of it after the second. Yet I walked out of the theater loving the movie and can't wait for the home video release. I don't think it's a fantastic movie, and in particular really don't care for either of the main villains, but I love it. It's hard to articulate why it resonates so much. Maybe it's because Eddie and Venom are such losers, as Venom calls them both. Maybe it's the chemistry between Tom Hardy and... Tom Hardy. But something about the way this movie feels by the end, with Stan's cameo by the end, I'm right there rooting for them both too.
