I'm pleasantly surprised to see this actually happening, though I'm not thrilled by that kidified plot. Just please don't hire Polygon Pictures to do the animation, Legendary. Seriously, anyone but Polygon.

Wow, right after seeing Uprising with my son back March, he asked if they were going to make the 3rd film that the ending teased....I knew pretty much it would not make enough box office to warrant that but I did think back to the Godzilla animated series based off the 1998 films and said...."NO, there wont be another film, but an animated series would be kind of neat..." . I didn't think it would actually happen, but I'm pleasantly surprised it is

I think it looks pretty cool. Love how they're using the classic sound effects; nicely conveys it's sequel status. Hope it increases Ultraman's status in the US.

Netflix getting the original Evangelion is wild, though.

NGE- The most overrated anime of all time, this is a complete non-event that its coming to Netflix. I am looking forward to Ultraman though, the Manga has been interesting, even if it is quite different from the standard Ultraman fair, reminds me of The Guyver in some respects, but not as violent, which isn't a bad thing.

^ Whether you like it or not Eva is enormously popular and, coupled with the limited availability of the show in the last decade (rights issues?) Netflix making the show available again is a huge deal.

Wow, what a bunch of losers. I mean I know the R1 DVDs have been oop for a while, but I always figure if something is " beloved" enough as they claim this is, then you would do whatever it takes to obtain it. I can't imagine there are that many fans don't already have this. Unless they are just lazy and non committal. I sold my DVDs of this series years ago, and not for all that much either.

Yeah, no matter how widespread bootlegging of a certain piece of media is, even now there's nothing like having an official release widely available. I mean, sure, someone can get the original unaltered Star Wars Trilogy on Blu-ray, but as numerous as those fan copies are they pale in comparison to the amount of people watching the current official releases of those movies.

I'm going to wear my loserdom on my sleeve and say, as someone who's been meaning to watch Evangelion for years, its arrival on Netflix is a blessing.* It means I know exactly where to find it in probably the highest quality, and don't have to pay for and/or deal with the OOP physical media of a show I may not like anyway. Besides, I don't torrent unless it's a pressing matter, and haven't for a few years now. I can wait.

* Assuming it comes to Canadian Netflix, of course. I got burned recently by its lack of The Punisher: War Zone and am ticked off by regional licensing as a concept.

So, let's just say, just for example, you REALLY wanted to see the Yokai Monsters movies, and didn't buy them back when they first came out. You'd drop the $120 for three movies you've never seen?

And even if YOU would (which is crazy, honestly), not everyone has the MEANS to do so. I seriously can't believe you couldn't/wouldn't recognize that.

I own the original Evangelion and I wouldn't pay $120 for that series. It really gets half assed at the end there.

^ It should go without saying that no sane person would want to watch a movie or TV show more badly than they would want to take care of their loved ones and get by from day to day. That's why when the only current "legal" way (if you could call it that) to check out a movie or TV show is to pay unaffordable prices to third-party sellers for out-of-print home media releases, that qualifies as legally unobtainable for anyone who puts real-life responsibilities first by default. That's why when such a title becomes available to watch on a streaming service like Netflix, it becomes the first viable option that isn't piracy for such folks.


Also, I'm pretty sure that Neon Genesis Evangelion was available to stream on Hulu last year. It's not on there now but I remember around the time when Funimation was releasing Shin Godzilla on BRD, I was browsing Hulu and I came across it and I thought "Hm, Evangelion... Hideaki Anno... Shin Godzilla... Maybe I should check that out sometime. I'm surprised it's only 26 episodes. Are a lot of anime series that short?" but I never did check it out. I didn't realize it was currently out of print on home media in North America.
