Personally, I think that if Ghidorah has to appear in two films so close together, all the better that they're two - from the looks of it - wildly different portrayals. A perhaps more traditional (but brought to life using modern technology and on a budget beyond anything we've seen before) take from Legendary, and something more out there and unorthodox from Toho.

I bet you he doesn't even fight Godzilla. He probably changes into ambient energy and gets absorbed by Godzilla in the last 3 minutes of the movie.

There has been a gif floating around that came out of some either Polygon promo or a Toho promo that has like a...4-second clip of this.

Ghidorah definitely seems to just be a lightning bolt.

It's funny how for the past 30 years, all I've ever heard the fandom do is cry out in one loud voice about their desire to see a Mechagodzilla that's just a brain controlling a bunch of guns in a city and a Ghidorah that's just a few bolts of energy streaking around aimlessly and now here the anime is. Thank you Polygon, for making EVERYONE'S wishes come to life!

In sounding rather sacrilegious, I actually do not mind this interpretation of Ghidrah (and if anyone noticed, that young girl pronounced it as GHI-DAA-RAH - and none of that Ghi-DOR-ah nonsense! ).

As I stated earlier, I think this harks back the Orochi and Prince Susano battle (especially from "The Little Prince and the Eight-Headed Dragon"), where we basically see nothing but these long heads.

Legendary will (hopefully) give us classic Ghidrah next year, so I really do not mind Toho playing it around a little bit for this feature.

Hmm. I heard it again, and I do hear Gi-Do-Ra, but which is still very different than Gi-DORR-ah, or Ga-DORR-ah, that many like to refer it to. How she said it, I guess is up to one's interpretation. I think we've reach the great debate of 2018!

Seriously though, watching that and hearing the ifukube score has helped remind me how bland this score is. It’s like every film since Space Godzilla he’s done has gotten progressively worse. I loved the GvsSG theme, found G2K memorable and even his music for Slayers in the mid 90s was well received. This whole affair has been sleep inducing though.


Did anyone know what the Netflix views for this have been like? They can’t have been great when people can turn on the news and get more excitement from political showdowns and apocalyptic warning signs. I preferred it when it was reverse.

I can't imagine the Netflix views are tremendous. These things have been more or less dumped onto the platform and not really ADVERTISED as Netflix things. They get little to no coverage outside of kaiju fandom and I honestly doubt most people even know they exist.

That's probably for the best, given their quality.

^ i had some friends that are outside of the fandom aware of the first film - they watched it and were all underwhelmed. Not a single friend has mentioned the existence of the second film. i'd be willing to bet there was a major drop in viewership between 1 and 2

^ Similarly. I have a friend who likes Godzilla, but doesn't own any of the films. he just catches them if they are on TV etc... I did take him to see Shin Godzilla in the Theater, which he liked. But he has Netflix. We watched the first film together, and when he asked my opinion of the 2nd film, he hasn't bothered to watch it even though he can with a few clicks of a remote. He has seen the previews for the 3rd film, and says it does look more interesting.

I watched first film 3 times, and honestly I don't hate it. Like I've said several time before -It's a decent anime sci-fi film, it's just not a good Godzilla film. I've only watched the second one once, and probably will again before the 3rd one comes out, but its not a high priority right now.

hopefully, the next time around toho will realize the mistakes and try to fix them as that might improve profit.
