Finished The Flying Witch, only problem is I want MORE of it (and yes I did watch the Flying Witch Petit things).
The dub was very nice, and despite not knowing most of the actors (only familiar names were Kira Vincent Davis & Tiffany Grant) they did a good job.

Now I am quickly blasting through Squid Girl Season 2 (already watched Season 1 in the past).
The good news is they got the same dub actress to be Squid Girl, though I think they replaced most of the other voices with Sentai regulars (though I could be wrong).
However they sound pretty close to the voices from Season 1, so it might be the same people?

So I finished Squid Girl.
It was cute, funny, and really good.
Dub was hilarious with all the Squid-talk.
Only problem is that I want MORE!
I guess I'm like Sanae in the show (she's super obsessed with Squid Girl in a yuri way).

Got done watching Puella Magi Madoka Magica on Netflix, the series, the 2 recap movies (Beginnings & Eternal) and the original film (Rebellion).

That was something! With the first 2 episodes I wasn't sure what I was getting into, but with the 3rd things really kick off and become very interesting. I won't say too much, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the shift in tone, even if parts are a bit gloomy. It's from the writer of Godzilla: Monster Planet, so if you're gonna check that out on the 17th I'd say give Madoka Magica a go too.

We just finished the first season to Yu Yu Hakusho and I'm kind of impressed. It's only been 28 episodes, but the show has already gone through five arcs and is already starting its fifth in just that time span. Not to mention they haven't spent more than 2 episodes on a single fight and training scenes are reduced to like a minute long montage. Although, I find it strange that the first season ends in the middle of the first fight to the Dark Tournament. You would think the season would have ended after they rescued Yukina. Well whatever. Either way, it's a little slow moving but has a great cast of characters and I like the music. The only thing that it lacks in is animation are sometimes they look really deformed (like Yusuke having huge hands).

Well since I heard about the Anime Strike part of Amazon going away, I decided to check out some of the stuff they had on there.

First up was UQ Holder, which was pretty decent. Kinda hoping there might be a 2nd season.

Tried some other stuff but wasn't quite feeling:

Devilman Crybaby via Netflix was kinda interesting.
Chi's Sweet Adventure, was super cute but it's not the first season.
Vatican Miracle Examiners, might check this out a bit more later.

Then I watched all of the 2nd Mushi-Shi series, which was good.
Hopefully when it comes out on DVD they decide to dub it with Travis involved.

Decided to finish Vatican Miracle Examiners.
Kinda a mix of spooky, dark, and mysterious.
It does have a rather odd last episode.

We finished the Dark Tournament today to YYH. Overall, I enjoyed it quite a bit, but it did not need to be 40 episodes long.

I'm finally getting caught up on Dragon Ball Super by watching the subtitled episodes instead of the dubs. I'll still be watching the dubs every week, but with the series set to conclude, and a movie supposedly coming later this year, I want to be caught up.

Watched the 2nd half of the Fate/Acropha (or however you spell that) on Netflix since they recently put up that dub.
It was pretty good, and unlike most the other Fate shows, it had a kinda "happy" ending.

We finished Season 3 of Yu Yu Hakusho today. The arc that follows the Dark Tournament started out quite weak (and kind of filler-ish) but has become quite enjoyable thus far. Yusuke is about to fight this dude named Sensui, who is kind of cool. I like the concept that he was once a spirit detective until he went crazy.

The dub has remained solid outside of a few moments here or there. My favorite line though is, "EARTH TO TODDLER "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!"!!" I do hate the character shields that Keiko, Botan, and Kuwabara's sister seem to have on at all times though.

Watched the first half of Thunderbolt Fantasy last year, loved it, but got distracted then - so I watched the entire first season, including those I'd already seen, over the last few days. It's the best. The coolest anime running isn't even animated. Hopefully I'll finish the last five episodes of Devilman: Crybaby this weekend. Tryin' to finish all my series I have left unfinished so's I can start new ones without guilt!

We just finished Yu Yu Hakusho. Overall, it was a very enjoyable show. It didn't over stay its welcome and it knew when it was time to end. That doesn't mean it was perfect, as I felt the Demon Tournament had the opposite effect the Dark Tournament had. The Dark Tournament was my favorite arc of the entire series, but it did drag on a little as it did not need to be 40 episodes long. As for the Demon Tournament, it was way too short as some of the central characters were defeated off-screen, which sucked. At first I was a little annoyed that the tournament also ended off screen too, but the end result with the winner was worth it. It was odd seeing the central character not be the final contestant, but I guess there really wouldn't have been much to see given how the Yusuke/Yomi fight went all out.

My least favorite arc of the series has got to be the Sensui arc. I loved the aspect of a rogue Spirit Detective, but the fights were just a predictable borefest to sit through and it just kept going. On the other hand, the Dark Tournament was the best despite its slowness at times because there was a lot of twists and turns you didn't see coming (except for Genkai's resurrection) and the fights were entertaining. Not to mention we did get some really important plot points between matches.

The core cast were all great with my favorite being Kurama. Having to fight between being a human and a demon was an interesting expect, especially his Inuyasha form. If I had any complaint it is that there wasn't enough Kuwabara in the final arc, though I'm not sure what more they could have done with him as his story really did feel like it reached its climax with the Sensui stuff. The ending was nice not just because it felt conclusive, but also because we were given an entire episode to act as an epilogue, which is the way it should be in every anime series.

Yusuke Honma's music was outstanding especially as the series progressed. THe last arc had a lot of really impressive tunes that I wish had been present throughout the show in its entirety even though a few of them fit quite well being in the demon world. I kind of what the soundtrack. It was strange having the same opening song for the entire series though while there were like 10 ending songs.

In the end, it was well worth finally seeing this series and I wished it wasn't nearly forgotten due to the Dragonball craze as in some cases, it was a far superior series. I might have to check out the manga to see how it differs as I'm sure there is going to be quite a few changes, especially during the last arc. Lastly, it is a shame Funimation never released the movies (or at least it doesn't appear like they did since I can't find any Blu-Rays listed on Amazon). Farewell Yusuke and gang, as your journey was a pleasant surprise for these last two month's.

I've ended up watching a lot more tan I expected to this season.

Kyoto Animation's Violet Evergarden had a rocky start with its first few episodes, but I think it's been getting steadily better (episode 7 was a particular doozy). The challenge seems to have been finding the right way to balance Violet's personal growth with the independent character stories she interacts with. The production values are through the roof, though - which is especially impressive since, apparently, .

Speaking of rocky starts, I feel bad I almost forgot about Darling in the FranXX, Studio Trigger's new collaboration with A-1 Pictures. Once again, this show is having some trouble finding solid footing amidst its overt metaphors and trope-heavy plot; but in this case, the show seems to be taking a more deliberately patient route, prioritizing charater dynamics and development over direct world-building scenarios. Production values are also really strong for this show, so I have modestly high hopes for it.

I really wasn't expecting to watch Pop Team Epic, but at this point I think I have to admit to enjoying it. What an absolute trip of a show it's been, though...

Mr. Osomatsu season 2 continues to be entertaining, although at this point I'd say they've definitely been ramping up the vulgarity since last season. I continue to be surprised and amused, though.

The Ancient Magus Bride is about to surpass where I've read in the manga, so I'm getting excited to see what comes next.

I've also ended up watching Mitsuboshi Colors, a show about three gradeschool girls who go around playing "heroes" in their town. It's a quaint, colorful, and cute show that has some real .

Oh! I went to see Studio Ponoc's Mary and the Witch's Flower last night. It's not a Miyazaki film, but frankly it's close enough: a thrilling children's adventure that's gorgeously animated.

Today I also took a lot at Discotek's release of Lupin the IIIrd: The Castle of Cagliostro, and it was delightful. This was my introduction to the Lupin franchise, but now that I've seen all of the original series and much of pt. 2, I feel I appreciate the film even more now. Discotek's presentation is terrific to boot.

Started watching Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. I've gotten up to episode 14 and this is starting to feel like Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans with the gut punches to the feels. A really good story, characters, and consequences for actions. There's still some mystery involved and the story has not been completely predictable. I have a new favorite.

Code Geass is wonderful, although, Season 2 does start off a bit weird.

Watched the finale to Dragonball Super. What a ride! A somewhat surprising finish to the Multi-Universe Tournament of Power. Which was a very long fight episode wise, but never got boring. And it left tons of story hooks for the next series (you know there will be one).

Continuing with Code Geass. I finished the first season and have gotten 7 episodes into the 2nd. Lelouch is turning into something of a monster, but given some of the things that have happened You could see why. And now the stakes just got raised for him personally. The tone of this series shouldn't work, the way it jumps from serious political and military violence to high school hijinks that impacts the previous two. But it does, somehow.

Had been dipping in and out of a few series for the past year. Made an effort to finish 'em all in the last few weeks and start some new ones. Tentatively starting Fist of the North Star (because it's an anime classic) and Vision for Escaflowne (as it's from the era I was most into anime, but I never got to see it first time round... so I felt is was missing, you know?)
