Pacific Rim: Uprising

It's a shame that the new jaegers lack the distinctive silhouettes of the originals, since that and the faster, smoother movement makes them look like Bayformers clones. Aside from that, the movie looks like good fun.

The one good thing I can say is that it does have more daylight scenes. However, what bothers me most, (and not just in this), is that we keep seeing these enormous things (be it jaeger or kaiju) move with lightning speed. Gone are the days where Haruo Nakajima or Ray Harryhausen are at zoos studying the movements of animals to get a certain realistic aspect for their monsters' flow. It seems like today's effects guys are studying the movements of Speedy Gonzales!

The camera movements felt forced. That kind of smooth/fast movement is meant for a Pixar movie. Some shots the Jaegers move too quickly. Some shots they don't. I think the monsters look great though. Personally I am tired of night time scenes and I am happy we get a day fight. I'm not expecting much but I am still excited to see it. I just hope it isn't all 100% action. That will get old quick.

Also the Jaeger on Jaeger thing isn't my cup of tea. Transformers has done that to the point of nausea and would prefer if they kept it more Kaiju oriented.



I think the Kaiju look dope as "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!".

The trailer looked pretty great, but oh the trailer music just stomps all over the trailer itself. Congratulations Universal, I do believe you have taken the crown for Worst Music In a Trailer from 20th Century Fox & Murder on the Orient Express.

I don't believe the Jaeger vs. Jaeger battles are quite what they seem. Early on I believe GDT mentioned when Geiszler drifted with the kaiju brain that .

As the above potential spoiler seems to have continued through the development from Maelstrom to Uprising then the Jaegers the heroes are fighting may not be true Jaegers but rather

This is one I'm gonna save for the 5 dollar tuesdays or redbox. Kinda disappointing, looks like television tokusatsu in comparison to the original.

Hey, does anyone remember back in the day when PJ's King Kong was drastically redesigned from how he appeared in the first trailer?

I'm with Henry 88 on this one The only thing guarantee on these forms anymore of his people want to complain about every little thing. I for one think this is going to be totally fun movie and it's exactly what it should be a fun movie. I love the first one and maybe this one is a little too transformers/Power Rangers for some, butif I was a kid I would go nuts for this movie. Everybody complained about how there is too much dark too much rain too much is too much that the last movie, this one has the exact opposite and everybody's complaining anyway. This isn'tShakespeare in tthis is a "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" giant monsters fighting giant robots fighting other giant robots destroying cities. At least with their designs you can see what they're doing is supposed to have the stuff that's in the Transformers movie.

Sometimes I think the core of all the complaints about Pacific Rim (and now at least part of the complaints against P-R Uprising ) is that these two movies embody the idea of films as entertainment first. And really it's not just PR and PR:U, there are many such movies (and even shows).

Guillermo Del Toro and the rest the team that made Pacific Rim are not trying to sell us anything, they don't have an social agenda to push, they aren't making Oscar bait. PR is movie made because it's F-U-N fun, to watch people pilot super robots and fight & win against the giant monsters that are attacking humanity. And for some reason it seems like professional reviewers (and those following after them) have a difficult time with the concept of people enjoying watching a movie that doesn't have some sort of agenda behind it, that aren't trying tell people that they are an A,B, & C type of person for reasons X,Y, & Z.

^ I'd argue that the movies do have an agenda, but it's very simple and sentimental and uncynical. The idea of all of humanity teaming up heroically. GDT said he wanted a movie where the world saves the world, instead of America saving the world or some lone chosen one or whatever. DeKnight even made a point at the panel to say that anyone can pilot a jeager and save the world, regardless of race or sexual oriention.

Our culture, especially online culture, has a cynical streak that makes it not know how to deal with something rather silly and sincere.

Ramin Djawadi's score for Pacific Rim is great, the only news that disappointed me about PR:U was that Djawadi was not doing the score for it too.

I guess I should note that outside of watching the trailer, I haven't been actively following movie news the last 4 months or so (something I've been doing with many movies lately). I gotta ask, what are a couple recent pieces of news that fall into the bummer column?
