The Madman (Australian) home video release for the this July. I think our eventual Funimation release will have pretty much the same cover: Japanese poster with the text replaced by the English language logo.

Just thinking about the amount of characters in Shin Godzilla... Funimation may end up employing a vast swath of the voice actors they have access to. I'm sure most voice actors would be pleased as punch to be in a Godzilla movie dub, even if only for a line or two.

I see Madman edited out the googly eye. This is an unusually contemplative look for Shin Godzilla, rather than his usual, "Whatsa goin' on? I'mma keel you" look.

Fans are circulating that the Famous Monsters of Filmland newsletter revealed that Funi's North American Shin Godzilla Blu-Ray will hit in August.

Makes sense they'd be in the loop: later this month Funi will screen Shin Godzilla at the FMoF convention with Higuchi as a guest.

On a related note, when Funimation announced that they'd acquired North American rights to Shin Godzilla last July, they mentioned that they also licensed the rights for all of South America, Central America, and the Caribbean. As far as I know, they have not followed through on bringing this film to countries south of the U.S. other than .

Yeah like Dai mentioned, I guess the "UK release" consisted of a festival showing in Scotland one time.

I suppose it's not much of a surprise given that the last Godzilla film to see a UK release was Godzilla vs Mothra. From at least the late 80's through to the late 90's there were Showa movies all over the place along with the occasional Heisei offering, but since the turn of the century there's been almost nothing Godzilla-related released or shown over here at all. I was kinda hoping this might have marked the first actual release of a new film in 25 years, but oh well. At least importing stuff is still as easy as it was during the Millennium era.

It shouldn't be a surprise, but after the UK got blu-rays of the Attack on Titan movies months before America I honestly believed that Shin Godzilla would follow suit. But no, The Great UK Godzilla Drought continues. Then again, when Eternal Zero was released on DVD here, the titled was changed to the ultra-generic The Fighter Pilot. So maybe Shin Godzilla has already been released with a title like The Big Monster.

Same S***, Different Day. This is why I spent a ridiculous amount on a multi-zone blu-ray player a few years ago, almost exclusively for importing Godzilla movies. It's just a shame that the exchange rate has gone to hell thanks to Brexit. Back around 2006, when I bought the bulk of my Godzilla DVD collection, we were getting US$2 and AUS$3 to the pound. Importing kaiju movies and anime was cheaper than buying them locally, even with international shipping.

Huh, well that was unexpected! Seems odd they didn't get hold of it in the first place (and/or a long time ago). Chances are I'll have it on Blu-ray by August 10th depending on how long it takes to get here from Australian, but I'll still keep an eye out in case any of those theatrical showings are near me. It'd be cool to see an actual Toho Godzilla on the big screen for the first time.

I've seen the movie eight times on blu-ray, but I'm still tempted to check this out on the big screen. I wonder why it took so long.

Maybe whoever picked up the distribution rights for that one festival showing never had any intention to release it beyond that, or maybe they did and they eventually decided against it? Either way it seems like it should have ended up with Manga from the get-go.

It doesn't look like there are any showings close enough to me to really be able to catch one, but oh well, hopefully I'll still be seeing it soon enough regardless.

Funimation's physical disc release of Shin is still over a week away, but digitally it's already showing up on various venues.

It's great that the movie is now widely available for folks in North America (though the physical disc is still a few days away), and it's rather apt that it was one year ago today that Shin Godzilla was released in Japan!

By releasing Shin Godzilla on home media in North America just a year after the film opened in Japan, Funimation is maintaining the quick turnaround standard that Sony established with Godzilla x Mechagodzilla, Tokyo SOS, and Final Wars. It's great.

Thankfully for those of us in Region B territory, the same is also the case with Madman. Given the previously-mentioned drought of all things Godzilla here, about a third of my collection is made up of their DVDs (along with Sony and Classic Media), so I'm glad their Blu-ray release was about on par with the timing of the US one.

Any word on if any US retail store will have this in stock in the store on Tuesday?
IE places like Best Buy, Target, Wallmart, etc?

I know I didn't see it with the new release stuff we got at Fry's here in Austin (though we did get one copy of Colossal).

I looked on the sites, but they just say "pre-order" or "not available in store" (most likely since it's not "out" yet).

^WalMart is supposed to have it. Considering that Funi's previous live action releases (Titan, Kenshin) were pretty easy to find at brick-and-morter shops I think Shin Godzilla will continue the trend, maybe moreso considering the higher profile of Godzilla as a franchise.

Ha, can't believe I just realized the actor who plays Toru's dad in Gamera the Brave as a fairly major character in Shin.

He acts so different, and add to that his big glasses and I didn't recognize him.
