If they intend to do a DAM style film that ties everything together then they need to introduce more monster STARS. Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, Kong vs. King Ghidorah sounds... kinda lame, honestly. If whomever turns out to be the force behind KG, (if that is they route they wish to pursue), wants to stack the deck in their favor then they need to crank out a bunch of other monsters to overwhelm & wear down 'our heroes' in the final climatic battle. These need to be established ahead of time, in G'19, and even GvK - IF that's not the DAM film in Legendary's cannon. That's where you resurrect WB critters like the Rhedosaurus, big ants from Them! and Black Scorpion. Maybe even license some more sideline B characters like Ebirah & Kamakarus, Spiga, etc. These kaiju could be the cannon-fodder fighters, like Kamen Riders & Super Sentai take on before the main villain.

Just throwing it out there. Ya know, food for thought.

This movie is even better the second time! I just got back and the theater was even more filled than it was last Friday, closer to half-full and there were a lot of kids there. When the helicopters are dropping bombs to Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" and Kong throws a tree through one of them, just as the scene cut silent for dramatic effect, one boy in the middle of the theater said audibly, "That's King Kong."

The Alternate Opening for ‘Kong: Skull Island’ Would Have Ruffled Some Feathers

Against the second week box office behemoth of Beauty and the Beast Kong fares... rather well, actually: box office mojo predicts Kong'll make $28 million this weekend, a bit less than half of what it made in its first weekend, which is a pretty respectable drop even if a huge movie wasn't opening against it.

After this weekend Kong will have made about $110 million in the US and $259 worldwide. It's still yet to open in, I think, China and Japan?

I thought this month would be a bad one for movies crowding each other out, sucking up all the oxygen from each other and studios losing lots of money, but I suppose I was wrong. Get Out, Logan, Kong, and Beauty and the Beast have all been successful and it's been a huge month for movies. All of them were exciting and target different audiences.

The weekend actuals are in. Kong: Skull Island made about $1m less than estimated on Sunday for a $27,832,142 second weekend and a still-solid drop of -54.4% from opening weekend.

I had to say it was really fun movie. The monsters designs were good, especially Kong, who even has a bit of Toho's Kong (from King Kong vs Godzilla and a bit of a Gargantua)

Basically it was the cast of Platoon lead by Nick Fury to fight Kong and Loki, Captain Marvel and Wreck-It Ralph trying to save Kong.

The hull of the ship used to make the temple in Kong: Skull Island is 'The Wanderer,' which was the name of the ship (instead of 'The Venture') in the original novelization. I suppose that the MonsterVerse versions of Denham and crew didn't make it out of there back in '33!

Loved it, my two boys, 10 and 7 loved it (They know how CGI works and how nobody actually gets harmed so the violence was not an issue for them) my 7 year old actually giggled at

Was there deep dives into the characters? Not to a great extent for most, but enough to know what they were about. Action was great and most of the visuals were gorgeous. They made sure to state and all the right information to build the universe while allowing it to stand on it's own.

So this is what I never understand....Godzilla had too much people and information and not enough monster action, I've seen people complain how there is not enough background on the people in this one which replaces back stories with monster action....I am not a film critic...though web connectivity has made everyone believe they are...I went into this wanting to have fun, and I did. It had everything I wanted, maybe a bit too much foul language for my tastes, but in the end it was a great monster movie and my kids and I are stoked that we have two more Godzilla movies and another Pacific Rim to look forward to.

My only real side note....Kong emoted, a lot! I would anticipate that in the next two movies there will be much more Godzilla than 2014 and we will see more emotional range out of our favorite lizard which I think is important.

Godzilla 2014 and Kong: Skull Island couldn't be more different but I think both successfully accomplish what they set out to do. G2014 is 'less is more' (if a giant monster movie can be that) while establishing in peoples' minds what Godzilla is in the Japanese films - a big, mean radioactive dinosaur, something the '98 film didn't do (or want to do). On the flipside Skull Island is right up front with its 'more is more' attitude. It shows you can tell a Kong story removed from the traditional Beauty and the Beast/Empire State Building tale retold so well in Jackson's film (which is still somewhat fresh is peoples' minds). It has more in common with something outlandish and strange like King Kong Escapes. I don't think King of the Monsters and vs. Kong will be as stylized as Skull Island, but it definitely sets the stage for more crowd-pleasing monster elements in the MonsterVerse.

Was finally able to see Kong: Skull Island today -- great movie, great monster fights, highly anticipating the next Monsterverse movie and finding out just what shenanigans Monarch has been up to with Kong (and the other creatures from Skull Island).

While watching the movie, I think I spotted an instance that suggests Warner Brothers may be looking to incorporate some of their giant monsters (outside of Kong) into the Monsterverse movies. Spoiler tags just in case, regarding some sounds in one scene towards end of the movie.I don't believe anyone has mentioned it in the thread yet, at least some searches didn't turn anything up:
