Good god. The trailers now show the rangers fighting without their helmets fully on. WTF? It also doesn't help that there is some god awful rap music in it.

Reviews trickling out, most not good, but one point stuck with me when I read the review on uproot...

^ I don't know about that. Sure the movie will probably fade into obscurity, but it DOES have a loyal fan base, probably just enough to *maybe* make the movie profitable (but not sequel worthy). But who knows...the thing could do like some other movies and make a ton in other markets like China warranting a continuation *shudders*.

Kind of sad that F4, even among Marvel fans, cant find acceptance considering they were the "first Superhero family" of Marvel.

Even positive reviews are mostly along the lines of "It doesn't totally suck." Hardly what Lionsgate wanted to hear. What I've read & heard leads me to beleive that this will morph onto homevideo at Turbo speed.

I've been going back and forth about whether or not I'm going to see this one in the theater. I wasn't even that into PR as a kid, outside of owning some figures and a Halloween costume, but I watched and enjoyed Zyuranger last year and have been wanting to give this movie a fair shake anyway. Even the reviews so far haven't swayed me one way or the other. Might go see it just to satisfy my curiosity. I've thrown more money at dumber, more useless things.

There's a lot of things about this movie that doesn't work. It's uneven, jarring and tonally bipolar, but I sort of enjoy it because of those flaws. If nothing else it's given long time fans an intriguing new take to chew on. I think the characters work for the most part--It's basically Breakfast Club with superpowers. It definitely needed more Ranger action though.



I'm a little conflicted on this one. I'll say it's very okay. It works well in parts, but not as a cohesive whole.

You could really see the struggle the creative team had in searching for a tone and direction for this movie, but on the whole I think it paid off. I was surprised at how instantly likeable many of the characters were, with Jason and Billy being especially great. Red rangers always run the risk of being bland; not an issue here. The dialogue was generally good too, though I didn't enjoy the few lapses into crude humour.

I can only think of three real negatives. Rita's depiction didn't gel until late in the movie, being overly quirky at first, and not feeling like the threat Zordon bigged her up to be until her power was in full flow. Some of the cuts between scenes were awkward, with a puzzling lack of establishing shots that made it hard to figure out where certain scenes were taking place at first. Finally, if you've seen the first two trailers, you've seen the movie. That one is on the marketing team, of course, but in this case I think they had little choice. Structurally, this is a very old-school, 80s-esque movie, with all its big action money shots crammed into the third act.

Aside from those issues, it was a blast. It could have done with more time in the ranger suits, but the characters are entertaining enough in themselves that it didn't feel like a problem. Mostly though, it just felt like Power Rangers. Definitely something tonally at the RPM end of the spectrum rather than the original goofy Mighty Morphin', but a real Power Rangers story nonetheless. Here's hoping it does good enough business to greenlight a sequel.

Saw it today and... Power Rangers did not suck. Actually I had a stupid amount of fun, more fun than I probably should have It felt almost like a movie you would watch in the 80s/early 90s, but had modern spfx and a budget of 100+ million dollars. I hope it gets a sequel. Also, there is a mid credit teaser you should stay for.

How are there going to be any sequels?

Just remember this, Ghostbusters (2016) on a Budget of $144M made 229M world wide and was considered a critical and financial disaster

Pacific Rim (2013) on a Budget of 190M made $411M world wide and is only by a conversion of several miracles getting a sequel.

Now... Power Rangers had a slightly lower budget than these films $100M, but does anyone think that it will actually reach $200M world wide? (sitting at around $68M currently) with its opening weekend being behind it?
