To me, the music in Godzilla films is one of the most important and appealing aspects of the franchise. I've always felt the musical scores were among the best of any movie genre. I also loved the fact that, while Godzilla requires a booming score, you can also have those mellow moments. This theme is perhaps one of my favorites -

I'd actually like to have Oshiima back. I'm not sure who else I would pick because honestly, there hasn't been an anime soundtrack that has really jumped out at me since 2008. Then again, Yoko Kanno could probably do a good Godzilla score.

If we can get someone who's flavor is similar to Yuji Koseki's Mothra score, I'd be happy. Someone who does lush scores with a huge sense of drama without it sounding...gritty.

Information was added on Toho's official website that revealed one of Japan's most praised composers, Shiro Sagisu, will score the themes for the King of the Monsters.

Hmmmm... Anno and Higuchi are such die-hard fans of classic Toho, I wonder if we'll hear a few of Ifukube's themes amid the new music?

I certainly don't think Ifukube music is necessary, just that I could see them doing that.

I'm having mixed feelings about the soundtrack for Shin Gojira. On one hand, the new music is glorious; on the other hand, there's a lot of recycled music - particularly several variations on Sagsiu's "Decisive Battle" theme from Evangelion. Now, I don't have a problem with Sagisu reusing work - Ifukube certainly did it a lot - but I feel like "Decisive Battle" is one piece he should have left alone. That's, like, the iconic BGM theme of Evangelion. Hearing it for Godzilla is odd to me in the way hearing Godzilla's march theme in Evangelion would be odd; it's part of the franchise's identity.

Maybe I'm overthinking this. I'm sure it'll sound fine in the movie; and again, I'm loving the brand new tracks. I bet "Persecution of the Masses" will even go down as one of the most memorable Godzilla themes.

That's my point: Ifukube reused cues all the time, so I'm not faulting Sagisu for that. However, I do feel certain themes become so tied to their original films/series/franchises - like the Godzilla marches, or Eva's "Decisive Battle" - that they should be left alone.
I've only seen Daimajin once; did Ifukube actually reuse a Godzilla-specific theme for that film's soundtrack?
