TOHO is doing A LOT right now. You got the game coming out next month; they're holding little conventions every few months; also they have a game coming out for tablets. I think though, a anime movie wouldn't hurt anything. I'm sure a anime film wouldn't cost a ton, and the stories are endless. I'm sure TOHO would be happy seeing a anime style Godzilla film making 15m. It wouldn't hurt LPs Godzilla films as they're completely different styles, and the anime film would only be for Japan. Not sure how that over saturates the Godzilla market. You almost kind of expect Godzillas home country to do more.

I agree the old techniques of filming is pretty much dead...
that's why it wouldn't hurt to do a anime film. Hell, it might even be a break out hit there. Plus you got dvd/bluray sales.. And I'm sure there would be plenty of us who would import it. I just think its a waste for TOHO to not try something different.

Speaking of anime, let's say the give it green light, what if Toho decide to market the anime to the western audience? I mean, like The Big O years ago.

Also, if its going to be an anime the question would be, what if fans end not liking it? Toho could make either an anime for children, like Pokemon, Digimon or Yugi-oh, but with Toho kaiju, or something more mature like Getter Robot Armageddon, or Mazinkaizer, or why the hell not, a moe version with girls as Toho monsters (It happened with Mazinger, yeah, Japan just lost it).

I'm sure making an anime is not that easy, especially with all the animated shows in Japan, even if Toho has a whole universe to pick up ideas.

I'd be totally down for a take on Gundam Build Fighters, except I don't think Toho has a great action figure/model kit line to market as a tie-in. Not that you really need one, I guess. I just think it'd be fun to see characters mod out kaiju figures/kits/virtual models in random ways - a Jet Jaguar with Mechagodzilla parts, a Destoroyah with Batman colours, etc.

i'm still conviced the best time Godzilla could have had an anime was from 70's to 90's, but I could be wrong.

I like the idea of a Godzilla anime in theory. The toho universe has plenty of monsters, wacky robots, and weapons to make it work.

Personally, I don't think we'll see any big Godzilla films come from Toho as long as Legendary is in the picture. However, that doesn't mean I don't think we won't see Toho utilize the character in entertainment in some way. I'd welcome an anime, maybe 30-50 episodes long (so it isn't so long it gets tiresome and has a set begging, middle, and end) that would bring back classic kaiju and even make some new. If not a full anime, a handful of OVAs.

If Legendary would be up to the task, bridging Godzilla and its sequel with its own cartoon series. I know this would be a pipe dream, but I'd kill to see the same animators and artists behind Godzilla: The Series back in 1998-2000 comeback for a series based on Legendary's version.

IDW has the comics covered, but I'd really hope Toho could loosen up their grip and allow some crossovers here and there. Godzilla vs. Transformers? vs. GI Joe? Hell, they said no to Godzilla vs. Cthulhu during the last infestation. C'mon, Toho. PLEASE allow that one to happen.

I'd like to see Toho and Bandai team up for a new vinyl figure line that is a bit like the recent Ultraman Spark Dolls. Smaller in scale, these things are extremely affordable and would be an awesome way to get some of the classic and obscure kaiju in toy form.

Even if Toho were only to permit crossovers with other Japanese properties (for whatever inexplicable reason), that still opens the door for crossovers with Ultraman, Gamera, Attack on Titan, Mazinger, Gundam, etc. Letting Godzilla interact with Western characters just opens it even wider - not to mention it makes it accessible to us North Americans. Granted, allowing crossovers also could lead to really bad ideas being produced - Godzilla ending up in Westeros, for example* - but to see such things done in a professional capacity would be interesting. The demand is strong enough that Toho should reconsider its current stance.

* Now, King Ghidorah in Westeros? Entirely different story.

AND Godzilla managed to not lose to the Avengers. Literally some kid told him to stop, and he did after SHIELD, the Avengers, and the Fantastic Four failed to stop him.

Bring on the crossovers I say.

It makes very little sense to me when all Toho would have to do is rake in the rewards of the American films leaving the risks on these shores. I did forget one all important factor in their decision to do so.....................pride. Like Americans, Japanese possess a profound nationalistic pride. They may or may not find it difficult to accept the success of the American film based on the fact it was done with their property, something they themselves could not sustain in Japan. The debate on which companies can make a better Godzilla movie is still open but one thing is for sure. No one can make a Godzilla film on their budget with some marginally successful results.

This is a different kind of reaction than the one from GINO: that film was so reviled by fans who disowned that creature as anything close to Godzilla. Toho simply had to bring back a more authentic Godzilla. Legendary's Godzilla has been accepted by fans. Even those who were more than critical about the film thought Godzilla was great. The main complaint is that they wanted more of Godzilla. Toho can't simply fill a vacuum after a failure, they have to compete with a creative success accepted by fans.
