While it may not have lived up to the previous DC animated flicks, Justice League: War was a hit with most fans, allowing DC to restart their animated properties. And now, as teased in the film's after credits scene, the sequel will pit Superman and co against the Atlanteans.

Well I've watched Assault on Arkham, and I enjoyed it a lot. Of course I am one of those people who don't have to Google King Shark so maybe I'm biased in that regard. (One of the reasons I loved Young Justice was the use of relatively obscure DC villains, so that's a plus here) I've been a fan of the Suicide Squad since its beginnings by John Ostrander back in the 80's to its current inception, and this film does the concept proud imho. I really ended up rooting for this band of murderous misfits, and true to the Squads name and history, not everyone will survive the mission. The end fight between Deadshot and another villain (not throwing out spoilers) was fantastic. Yes Batman is in this film, (wonderfully voiced as always by Kevin Conroy) but the focus is on the Squad, and how they interact and work with each other. This is not a film for the kids btw, there are definite adult themes and violence involved. This is easily the best one that DC has put out since Flashpoint imo.

I'm not going to lie, I was really skeptical of it due to the last two stinkers and while this is far from perfection, it had great moments to go with a decent story. In fact, Harley and Deadshot are easily the stars of the show as they are just down right awesome in every scene. Troy Baker does an amazing job as the Joker to the point that he might even be better than Hamill. My biggest problems with the movie though were its treatment of Batman. He let people die and frankly, there was no need for him to even be here. Nevertheless, the animators did a great job recreating all of the locations I visited in the games in this thing, be it Penguin's Ice Berg Lounge to that freaking room with the electrified floor to the annoying as hell brick bridge that you have to have the joys of climbing up in Asylum. The only thing I do not understand the movie needed to do was the pointless death scenes that just felt like they were there just to say, "Hey, we killed people, we are edgy!!" Overall, I give this a 7/10 stars and I hope the movies start to go back upward.

Ok, I'm going to toss this out here to see who else would like to see this. I was looking through the synopsis for the upcoming episodes of Beware the Batman and I saw that they were doing an episode with the Paul Kirk version of Manhunter. To say I geeked on reading that would be an understatement. Archie Goodwins Manhunter Saga has been one of my favorite stories in comics since it first came out forty years ago, it easily stays in my top 3. But the character has not been seen in any of the animated series, in part because Archie and co-creator Walt Simonson were adamant that Paul KIrk was dead and wasn't going to be resurrected, again. And DC has been (amazingly given the track record on dead heroes) true to their wishes.

But now I wonder how great an animated film that story would make. Yes, Batman does appear at the end, but the story of resurrection, betrayal, vengeance, and redemption that flows through the story would still work well if done right today. And retelling it in a video form wouldn't violate the late great Mr. Goodwins wishes. I know the odds of it ever happening are really long, it's an old character that many, even among comics fans aren't aware of. But a great story like this one could make a fantastic film.

Any thoughts?

Sounds good to me, DC has plenty of great characters (and various incarnations of characters), that could do well in the DC Animated Universe movies.

Whoa! DCAU mastermind Bruce Timm will executive producer a new digital Justice League cartoon for Machinima to debut in spring of 2015. Titled Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles, it will be be co-produced by his Batman: The Animated Series partner Alan Burnett.

What do you get when you take what should have been a stand alone movie and add the Justice League into it? This poorly written, poorly paced, movie. There are scenes in the movie that feel like they should have been longer, while there are others that do not belong. The plot is hardly bearable, there is very little in the way of character development, and there is a lot that does not seem to make sense. For example, there is a scene later on in the movie where the US military shows up without any rhyme or reason. They are just there. On the positive side, it is an improvement over War, but not by much. There is also a countless amount of violence that doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the movie. In fact, I am not even sure why it is there. It's like the Justice League cares more about killing off as many bad guys as possible than actually just stopping them. How are these guys heroes? Overall, I am so glad I did not drop a single cent on it as I will never rewatch the movie again. I give it a generous 5/10 stars.
