Really, if anyone is actually bummed about this (not pointing any fingers), and if you really want to make this about Godzilla vs VA (not pointing fingers there either) just consider a few things:

1. Running up the votes on an insignificant internet poll is considerably easier than running up actual box office revenue. You can't use a bot to buy millions of tickets.
2. Here are the actual projections for VA, according to BoxOffice.com:

Not overly impressive.

When 2014 draws to a close it will be pretty obvious what movie "won" in the real world.

And if you really... really think that either of those is going to do more business than any of the Marvel films, Hunger Games, or The Hobbit, let alone Godzilla, well...

I'm pretty surprised Hunger Games didn't make the finals...but EXCELLENT point on the box office numbers. No way either outdoes those movies.

It's #5 on the worst openings for films opening on over 2500 screens when adjusted for today's ticket prices

For an excellent comparison in just how bad that is, I, Frankenstein at least is only #95 on that list. It barely cracked the top 100 worst openings!

I've been seeing tons of ads for Vampire Academy for the past, oh, two weeks. They had pretty good advertising saturation. I guess people just didn't want to see it because it looked horrible.

Makes you wonder about just what the decisions are behind doing a big ad blitz. When you know you've got a stinker on your hand do you try to bury the film or do you try to amp up the advertising in order to trump the bad word of mouth?
