Attack on Titan

Has anybody been watching this? I haven't, but I'd like to start. Crunchyroll.com has been showing them weekly. It seems to be really popular with people and it sounds awesome.

Many years ago, the last remnants of humanity were forced to retreat behind the towering walls of a fortified city to escape the massive, man-eating Titans that roamed the land outside their fortress. Only the heroic members of the Scouting Legion dared to stray beyond the safety of the walls – but even those brave warriors seldom returned alive. Those within the city clung to the illusion of a peaceful existence until the day that dream was shattered, and their slim chance at survival was reduced to one horrifying choice: kill – or be devoured!

Toho was supposed to do a live action version, but it looks like its in development hell at the moment.

I've been reading the manga, I need to make an effort to watch the anime though.

I've heard people talk about it, there was a lot of cosplayers for it at AX, but since Funimation has licensed it, I'll wait until they release it on BD before I give it a try.

I didn't know Funimation licensed it, I might wait and watch it that way.

Me too. You guys are all right in saying that a lot of people are talking about this show though. Haven't seen this much positive feedback about an anime show in a while...since Tiger and Bunny, and before that, Gurren Laggan.

It's weird, I remember being super into the manga last year but Shingeki no Kyojin's popularity has ballooned insanely in the last few months.

I finished the first season.

I liked the show, but some of the monologues were just WAAAAAY too long. I enjoyed the concepts and the battles were cool.

I deliberately skipped the last two episode, so I can watch them fresh on the BD release next year.

Both the manga and the anime are very good stories, in my opinion (granted, the anime is a direct adaptation, so it had better be as good). I am constantly kept on the edge of my seat with each new chapter.

Netflix? Uncut? Commercial free? Maybe I'll give the show a second shot.

I've been thinking about picking up the first few manga volumes though to see if I can get into the series that way.

Yup, it's even streaming in Japanese with subs, no dub.

That is my other dilemma. I kind of want to wait until Funimation dubs it before I give it another shot, which is why I'm thinking about reading the manga, and if I like it enough, buy it on BD when Funi brings it out.

I read the first volume of the manga today (ordered 1-3) and it was not bad. I'm still having a hard time following exactly what is going on though, so I'm not sure if that was intentional or not, but it does make it a little annoying as that is why I stopped watching the anime so quickly. However, I must not have made it that far in the anime at all as I never saw the big battle and
Spoiler Below:
having the "main" character get killed.

Eren Jaeger watches helplessly as one of the creatures devours his mother.

He vows to kill every Titan walking the earth. Eren and his surviving friends enlist to fight against the insatiable monsters. The future looks bleak, but there’s more to Eren than meets the eye: he may be humanity’s last hope against extinction. From the director of Death Note and High School of the Dead comes the series Anime News Network calls “an intense, visceral, and graphic thrill ride.” The Titans have come to feast.
